Stefan put his phone away, not really sure what to think. There was so much that he had seen that it was overwhelming. It was as if nearly ten years of memories, of events flashed through his mind, but he could feel it as if he had lived through it. Maybe that was the point. It was his history, but really, it was his future. It felt cut off. Like there was obviously more because while he knew that he and Caroline were apparently engaged, he didn't remember the wedding or what happened after that seemed to get to Caroline. Everything was just a whirlwind and honestly, the thought of just drinking and trying to forget it all was tempting.
The thought that his mother was alive, Valerie and the baby, Silas, Kai, Katherine, the twins, Caroline, proposing and then giving himself over to Cade - it was a lot. And it was something he couldn't just forget.
And he knew that he couldn't just shut out Caroline either. He leaned against the counter of his kitchen, staring at the half empty bottle of bourbon that was in front of him. Instead of holing up in his cabin alone because at the moment, he had no idea where Damon was, he chose to head toward the prison. He grabbed his hoodie, slipping it on before he left and headed down a familiar trail that he used to get to the prison.
What he didn't know was that Caroline was heading towards him, on that familiar trail and when he saw a flash of blonde, he walked a little further and that's when he saw her more clearly. Talking about everything that happened was important to him, he wanted to see how she felt. What they had was new, what they had was something that they hadn't told anyone. And maybe it was fear, maybe it was because Stefan just wanted to enjoy something because others could pick it apart. Besides, Caroline was Elena's best friend and just because she didn't know who he was didn't mean that Caroline didn't understand the heaviness of what this could mean. In a way, they didn't want to disrespect Elena but he knew that couldn't last forever.
"I was just heading to you," Stefan called out as they closed the distance between them and finally stopped, standing in the woods not knowing that somewhere in the same piece of forest, Kai was casting a spell to control the zombies and the vampires.
