Clint is not Legolas ([info]imnotlegolas) wrote in [info]zfuturelogs,

Entry tags:clint barton, rebekah

Who: Clint and Rebekah
What: Clint's gone to ensure that Rebekah will leave his loved ones alone
Where: City Hall (or where ever Rebekah is)
Status: In Progress
Rating: TBD

Ever since James had told them that Rebekah had been about and knew where they were, Clint knew that it would only be a matter of time before Rebekah came again and was less than nice about the visit. It was why one morning he left a note for Natasha saying he was going to ensure she and James stayed safe. If he had to offer himself in exchange for it, so be it. He just wanted them safe.

Easily slipping in through the cracks in the guard (it was daylight out and not all the vampires had daylight rings), he made his way to City Hall where he knew Rebekah stayed. Then it was a simple matter finding her. No doubt she had already scented him but he didn't care. He stood in the doorway of the room she was in and stared at her.

"I hear you dropped by for a visit but didn't say hello to me."

Rebekah's back was to Clint but she could feel him standing there, staring at her as she filed her nails and examined them at a table in the bedroom she shared with Alec. Alec had been a bit busy lately taming that ridiculous daughter of his. Rebekah had stayed out of his way. She held out her hand in the sunlight to look at her nails. They were beautiful but she did miss having a professional manicure.

"You seemed rather busy to me," she said, still not turning to look at Clint. "I was being polite." She dropped the nail file on her table and finally turned to look at Clint still lingering in the doorway. "Not that you deserved it, leaving without saying goodbye and all. If I didn't know any better I'd say you were trying to hurt my feelings."

He watched her impassively, use to waiting long amounts of time for things from when he had been a sniper and then in service to the vampire before him. She was a brat as her brothers claimed. So very much a brat and a bitch.

"Imagine that, you being polite," he retorted back. When she turned to face him his eyes remained unchanging as did his stance and posture. "Can you blame me? I thought she had died when you had us overrun the prison." His voice was hard and his eyes flickered but he did his best to show he wasn't challenging her.

"What do you want from me?" he demanded.

Rebekah rolled her eyes. She had been more than polite in several of her dealings with Clint. Such as giving him a chance at a second life when his was about to be taken from him. Not to mention not storming his precious cabin and ripping that small boy to shreds. Which she could have done, easily.

"How many times are you going to ask me that question, Clint?" she asked. It was a fair question she thought. He had asked her that question at least a dozen times in the years they've known each other and her answer had always been the same. "The only thing I desire from you is loyalty. Do I have it or not?" Her voice was clipped to show her impatience with him. She had no intentions of hurting his beloved. Love was a soft spot for Rebekah and she tried not to mess with it unless someone really pissed her off. Which to be fair, Clint was good at doing.

"If you require a holiday all you had to do was ask. You've served me well for years. You deserve some time off, I'd say."

Clint ignored her words on his asking. He took a step into the room and stared at her in the eye, unafraid given he was on vervain. Which sucked going down but it kept him safe from Rebekah and Klaus' influence. He refused to be controlled again like that.

"You'll have it if you give me your word that you won't touch Natasha or her son," he said. "You can do what you want to me I don't care. But no harm comes to them. At all." With her words about a holiday he rolled his eyes.

"I never know what mood your in and would rather not have you rip off a limb if it happens to be a foul mood." A slight smirk formed on his face. "Those give you wrinkles you know."

She tilted her head at him and gave him her best "oh really, bitch?" look.

"You're not doing much to help my mood right now. Shall I rip off a limb then?" She had just had the carpet cleaned and it wouldn't do to have Clint bleeding all over the place in her private bed chambers. Alec would be cross and then she would be even more in a foul mood and might just be so inclined to take it out on Clint.

This did seem to be their pattern though. He would provoke her, she would respond and then she would feel soft towards him. Only for the cycle to start all over again. She didn't know why she didn't just stake him and get it over with. Something about him kept her from killing him and she had yet to figure out what it exactly was.

"If you want a favor, ask for it and treat me with respect. Then perhaps I'll think about granting your request."

The truth was, some part of her liked that Clint didn't kiss her ass like all of her other charges did. He reminded her of her brothers in that regard.

"Like I can stop you if that's what you want to do?" he shot back. While he did always provoke her, he always knew that he was out of her league. Even if he was a vampire now she was still his elder. Centuries of strength and power were on her side.

"Do something to earn my respect Rebekah and I'll treat you with it." A slightly cocky smirk formed on his face. "Though I seem to remember you wanting to save my ass after the goodbye I shared with Natasha all those years ago."

No matter what Clint was, he was never an ass kisser. Even when his mind had been warped by Loki he never pandered for praise. He did his job and that was that.

She was up from her spot at her table in an instant and faster than a human's eyes could follow she had Clint pinned to the nearest wall. She grabbed a handful of dark hair with one hand and yanked his head to the side. She traced the scars on his neck with her other hand before releasing the death grip she had on his hair.

"I made you. I can break you if I want to." Rebekah was a brat and known to break her toys when they no longer pleased her. Clint had been testing her patience for many years now and she had not broken him yet, at least not irreparably. Clearly she had not toyed of this one toy yet. He had so many things to hold over him though. She could easily teach him a lesson by seeking out the company of young James. Perhaps the little one would learn how to respect her, maybe she would even turn him in time. Her interest in Natasha had waned over the years although she did find it quite curious that she still seemed completely intact and not a day over thirty, if that even. Curious indeed.

She pushed away from him. She didn't want to sully the carpet with his blood or else she might be more apt to hurt him, even just a bit. A little tickle for him to take home to his love.

Gracefully she sat back down at her table and sighed. Her nails were all ruined and she would have to start over. The little bastard. He was lucky that she enjoyed him or he would be dead.

"Consider yourself on holiday and your precious Natasha and James safe. But Clint, when I call for you, you will come. Do you understand?"

Clint didn't flinch when he was slammed against the wall. Really, what was it with vampires slamming him into walls? She had done it during their first meeting then a month or however long it had been later the vampire sheriff, Eric, had done it when Clint had been seeking his protection. He felt her tracing the scars on his neck. That area had always been sensitive since the scars had been made and he growled faintly at her.

He watched her return to the table. "I understand but let's say I decide to ignore your summoning me like a dog. Let's say after I leave here the three of us flee far from this place. What would you do?" Not that they would. There were people here that needed help. That needed to be freed.

But there was no challenge in his voice, merely curiosity. After all, she had no guarantee that he'd come back if she called.

"You can run but you can't hide." Rebekah smiled gleefully at that. Clint and friends may get away with running away for a little while, a little while may even turn into years. But eventually Rebekah would find him and then she would make him pay, first by watching her torture Natasha to death. Then she would turn James into a vampire and once he had completed the transition she would have James stake Clint. A perfect ending to a twisted fairytale. Happily Never After.

"But if you really are so desperate to get away from me I have a proposition for you." Rebekah was still studying her nails but she looked up at Clint for a moment as this was a serious proposition and not to be taken lightly at all.

"I'll allow you to buy your freedom from me. If you complete one last task, you will be free. You and Natasha and James can go live fuck all where I'll care. I won't come for you. I won't bother you again. Does that sound interesting to you at all?"

Clint held his tongue and merely shrugged. He had no doubt that if they truly wished it, the three of them could vanish until Natasha lived out her life as did James. Clint knew though, in his heart, that if Natasha ever died he would most likely welcome death. But not before taking James and finding Eric if the Norse vampire still existed. Or Steve.

Seeing Rebekah look up from her nails at him, he merely arched an eyebrow. "And what, pray tell, is this one last task you would have me do?" He wasn't going to agree to anything until he had all of the details. He was also very skeptical that she would let him go so easily. "Give you a pedicure?" he said, unable to resist the jab.

"Maybe. If I thought you could give a decent one," Rebekah said. It was impossible to find anyone good enough to do her nails anymore. She was stuck with having to do her own. She had managed it over the years just fine but Clint had already ruined her nails today and now he was getting on her last nerve.

"I want Stefan Salvatore and Elena Gilbert dead. Find them, kill them, bring me their heads and I will release you from any debt you have to me. You and Natasha and James may go off and live your lives. I will not bother you again." Which also meant she would not be there the next time Clint got himself into a scrape that he couldn't get out of. But he never seemed to appreciate her assistance anyway.

Clint gave a snort and leaned against the wall, his arms folded. "Then I'll be grateful I won't have to touch your damn old woman feet," he shot back. He listened as she spoke of who she wanted dead and the taunts fell away from his face and eyes. Elena. The girl who he had run into days ago when he had been mourning still for Natasha. The one who was letting people out of the farms.

He kept his face neutral though, not letting her know he had met Elena and let her go already. "Mind if I ask why you want them dead? You run Everett and it's not like they have the means to put you down. Be it permanently or for another concrete nap," he returned, his lips forming a cold smirk at the mention of the concrete. For now he kept silent on the him owing her a debt. He owed her nothing. He had been ready to die in that store. And her saving his life by making him a vampire meant nothing. She had hunted and toyed with him for months since he got on her radar.

Rebekah got up from her seat and grabbed Clint by his worthless neck. She slammed his head against the wall, once, twice, three times and four times, eventually she lost count. "You worthless piece of shit. The only thing you ever did was provoke me and then were surprised when you got what you deserved. And I still saved you. For what? For you to be an insolent little shit? You should feel lucky that I gave you eternal life. You should be grateful and still you treat me with disrespect. I've had enough."

She ripped his head clean off of his body, tearing it from the neck and tossing it across the room so that it hit the wall with a splat before falling to the floor. His body dropped to the ground in a heap. Pity. She'd just had these carpets cleaned.

Awoken from her fantasy daydream, she realized she was still staring at her nails and this idiot was still hovering over her. "It's not your job to question me. Your job is to do what I tell you to do. So either bring me their heads or you can consider my generous offer of a holiday and protection for the ones you love null and void."

She was done being generous with him. He did nothing but test her patience. Well, her patience had been tested quite enough and he was dangerously close to losing his head. Now she remembered why she had nicknamed him Deathwish.

Clint kept his eyes trained on her, resisting the urge to pull one of his guns loaded with wooden bullets free and shoot her. He wanted to do nothing more desperately than to tell her off, make threats with shoving a bomb up her ass and blowing Everett to hell. But he knew the moment he did that she'd rip his head off. Or worse.

So he kept his mouth shut and bit his tongue of the things he wanted to say. "Few problems though with the mission," he said, adopting his military calm he had done so long ago when presented with sniper missions he hadn't agreed with. "One, I have no idea on where to even start looking for those two. There's no guarantee they're even still in the area. Two...Natasha would never let me hunt down innocent people. Not after the shit Loki put me through." His voice was cool and professional while inside he was imagining creative ways to torture her and make her suffer.

"Nothing you've mentioned sounds like my problem," Rebekah said coldly. Clint was a marine, a soldier, a sniper. He knew how to gather intelligence and it was no secret that Stefan and Elena had been freeing the humans from the various farms and camps that had sprung up around Everett. All Clint really needed to do was set a trap, if he were clever and Rebekah knew that he was, this mission would not be impossible.

As to Natasha's reservations, well their romantic problems were not Rebekah's concern. Perhaps there were simply things that Natasha needn't know about her boyfriend. Rebekah wondered how Natasha would react if she knew how many people her darling Clint had ruthlessly murdered over the past few years.

"How badly do you want to be rid of me, Clint?" Rebekah asked him. If he wanted it badly enough he would work for it and find a way to bring her Elena and Stefan's heads. They were older vampires but Clint had his own advantages and she thought he was up to the task.

Clint snorted slightly at her words of it not being her problem. "Right. My death would mean nothing to you. Probably not even a minor inconvience." He knew this all came down to his choice. He could tell Natasha everything and they go from there, very likely leaving Everett to go on the run, or he keep quiet about it for as long as possible and do as Rebekah ordered.

But Clint wsn't worried at Natasha knowing about all the lives he had brutally murdered. It was merely more red in his ledger as they said to each other.

"Speaking honestly? I wish to hell you were still napping in concrete or worse." He looked at her, his eyes honest. "And, forgive me but, part of me doubts you'd ever really let me go even if or when I do bring you those two heads. After all, I'd live out Natasha and her kid. All you'd have to do is wait while I was mad with grief or something, right?"

If his death would mean nothing to her than why had she turned him? Even attempted to save his pathetic life? If he had stopped fussing about and only accepted her offer to save him she probably could have healed him with her blood but as it was, he had waited too long and here they were. Both immortals.

She stood up and walked towards him slowly. "Speaking honestly? Why would I want to keep you? You hate me, you always have. You've always gone out of your way to provoke me, like some naughty school boy waiting for his mum to spank him." Hmmm. There was a thought. Perhaps Clint had mommy issues.

"You detest me and though you've served me well, I've never truly had your loyalty no matter how many times I've asked you for it, or saved your ass. You expect so much from me but begrudge me asking anything in return. Why would I want to keep you?"

She took a few steps closer, hand reaching out gently to push a small lock of brown hair off of his forehead. Even in those rare moments of tenderness she had shown him, he had only reacted with intense hatred for her. Maybe her refusal to simply kill him was her own issues at play. Her self loathing coming to bite her in the ass. Nik would have already killed Clint twelve times over if it hadn't been for Rebekah. Sometimes she thought that her brother had the right idea.

She turned around suddenly and walked back to her table. "Do this one last thing and I will never bother you or yours again. I may be a lot of things but a liar is not one of them."

"You threatened to kill me over idle curiosity about if a sniper's bullet could take off a vampire's head," he said, watching her. "Then when I tried to lay low to get off of your radar, you broke into my cabin, stole all of my guns and ammunition for someone who didn't need them, then ripped into my throat and fed from me without my permission. Was all that suppose to make me love you or something?" he asked.

It always surprised him when she showed him a gentler side to him. Something he always reacted to by provoking her. This time though... "The only decent thing you have ever done for me was making me into a vampire to save my life. But after I felt like I finally had enough control over myself where I wouldn't kill the woman I love, you bring down the prison and she was taken from me." It was an extremely rare moment of vulnerability Clint was showing her. Why he was showing her he didn't know. Maybe because he was tired of constantly egging her on. In the past it had been in the hopes that she'd get pissed off enough to kill him so he could die and maybe be with Natasha. But now that he knew she was alive...

"With all of that, how could it lead to anything but me hating you?"

His interpretation of events was certainly interesting. The way Rebekah remembered it was that she had been minding her own business when Clint had begun to taunt his Vampire Barbie and threaten her with his silly little gun. Was she supposed to back down to GI Joe? Yes, he had been frustrated with Buffy's attack on the prison but Buffy and Rebekah were not the same as evidenced by Buffy's death some many years ago and Rebekah still standing strong after a thousand years.

If he had been smart enough to keep his mouth shut, he would have never even registered on her radar most likely. But he wasn't smart, or perhaps he was the smartest of them all as so many of them were dead and here he was, standing immortal and strong.

"I don't recall you objecting to the prison takeover. You could have gone to her then, saved her. You chose not to. That's not my fault," she pointed out. "I never kept you from Natasha. I turned you so that you could be with her, you were the one that chose to keep your distance. Don't you blame me for that."

If there was anything that Rebekah did believe in, it was love. She wouldn't stand in the way of it. Although with the way Clint pushed her, it was damn tempting....

"There's a very fine line between love and hate, Clint. Come back in five hundred years and we'll revisit this discussion," she said darkly, blue eyes flashing dangerously at him.

She and her brother somehow managed to simultaneously love and hate each other, Nik constantly turning on her and putting her on ice for decades at a time before awakening her. Her own father had spent centuries hunting her down. Her lover Alec was emotionally stunted thanks to Manticore's years of hard wiring him to be their perfect little killing machine. It was no small wonder that love was complicated for Rebekah.

Clint often downplayed how observant he was. If only so people underestimated him. But back before the world became a zombie buffet, he had been watching Selvig and the scientists working with the cube. Reading over the reports it was easy to deduce it was full of some sort of energy that could open portals through space. A fact he had told Fury moments before Loki had arrived.

"You wouldn't have stopped the takeover if I objected. You wanted it torn down because they resisted you and your boytoy." He met her eyes easily. "And I did go to try and find her. To get her out. But I couldn't find her." He tilted his head slightly. "As for keeping my distance? You were the one who recommended that after I was first turned so I wouldn't kill her." Although now he wished he had gone to the prison right then and asked for help. Maybe things would have been different. Or maybe not.

When she spoke of fine lines between love and hate he actually laughed and shook his head. "Rebekah, I was sent to kill Natasha back when things still made sense and I though demons and vampires and aliens were just Hollywood fiction." He watched her. "She hated me for a while when she found out who I really was. And now here we are." He noted the glint of danger in his eyes and kept his voice as non-threatening as he could.

"Just...help me understand Rebekah. Why are Stefan and his woman so damn important to kill? I want to understand. Please." And truly he did. If he could figure out why she was so adament about killing the two, maybe he could work on a solution.

No, she wouldn't have stopped the takeover if he asked. That much was true but measures could have been put in place to make sure that Natasha's life was spared and as it turned out she had been anyway. So Rebekah failed to see the problem there. She leaned back in her chair anyway and watched him carefully, listened to him even more carefully. He rarely spoke this way to her. It was either with hatred in his voice or the dull monotone of a good soldier boy.

"Because they won't stop until I'm daggered and beneath concrete," she said, trying to keep her tone light. She had remembered the last time that had happened. The way they had come after her when she was weak and vulnerable, how her good soldier had helped them dagger her when she wasn't even aware what century she was in. Perhaps her words would drive him to the rebels. There was absolutely nothing stopping him from going to them, other than the threat of Rebekah's wrath.

"They're freeing people from our camps and they're tangled up with Alec's daughter. I want them dead and out of the way."

And because Alec would never ever look at her the way Stefan looked at Elena. She wouldn't tell Clint that though. That was her own private cross to bear.

Clint saw at how she studied him and knew that this way of speaking to her might actually get through to her. And sure enough, it did. At least enough to where she spoke with him easily. At her mention of being daggered and buried under concrete, Clint couldn't stop the wry smile that formed on his face. "As if burying you in such stopped you before," he pointed out. He met her eyes. "Whether I like it or not, you are my sire. And I'm part of your bloodline now. So I do have an investment in keeping you alive."

At her words, he knew if he feigned ignorance she would call him out on it. She had a knack for knowing when anyone was lying. "I know. But why bother with Alec's brat? She can't hurt you." His mind worked quickly. "Besides, instead of killing them wouldn't imprisoning them be better punishment? Let them dessicate and spend centuries as a living skeleton unable to move?"

"Alec cares about the little chippy, I don't know why," Rebekah said, working hard to sound as if she didn't care. It wasn't as if she could give Alec any offspring. But it still grated on her that he had fucked that little slayer slut when the two of them were supposed to be together. At least Faith had given birth to a girl instead of a boy. If Lucy had been a boy maybe Faith would still be alive today. Alec had wanted a son, he settled for a daughter.

"They'd only find a way to escape if we imprisoned them. They always do." Hadn't he seen any of those movies? The bad guys who trapped the good guys were always stupid because the good guys always escaped and lived to make the bad guys pay for their indiscretions. While Rebekah didn't particularly think of herself as a bad guy she knew in a world of black and white she was. She was the Queen of Hearts and Clint was her White Rabbit.

Clint nodded some, understanding how she felt oddly with Natasha and James. Clint couldn't give Natasha a child. He hadn't even been able to as a human. He jammed a hand in his pocket and looked at her, his face unreadable.

He gave a shrug and brushed his other hand through his hair. "If that's what you want I'll see what I can do Rebekah." He turned, ready to walk away but paused. "There a time frame on this mission or just make sure it gets done right?"
