"Better that he's with her than she go alone," Elena pointed out. Sure, it wasn't ideal that Damon had run right off to help a girl with her suicide mission straight after waking up but it was better than Lucy going to her own suicide mission alone. The reason why Damon would go with her was part of the reason Elena loved him. Stefan would have done the same thing too and she knew it.
But she knew at the moment it was hard to see past the pain. Stefan wanted his brother with him now. Wanted to see with his own two eyes that Damon was safe and alive. Elena understood that because it was all she wanted to. So she slipped her hand into his and gave him hand a gentle squeeze. She wanted him to remember that she was there for him. And even though Damon waking up was a good thing, it was also a complicated thing but it wasn't going to change things between them. If she could think of a diplomatic way to say that to Stefan she would.
"They can't have gone too far. How long was it the last time we were here?" she asked him. And how long had it been since she had seen Lucy at camp? Not that long ago. Scott and Allison's disappearance had been recent. The entire camp had been rocked by it. Elena should have been paying more attention to Lucy but it was hard when you were busy trying to save captive humans from the farms in Everett.
And as far as the last time they had seen Damon, it was hard to say. Maybe a month? Maybe just a few weeks? It was hard to keep track of days here.
