Natasha Romanoff ([info]justlykbudapest) wrote in [info]zfuturelogs,
He surprised her by actually doing what she said. Even as he began his demands, Natasha dropped her crossbow and rushed over to fall to her knees next to James. She checked his pulse first and was relieved to find it still fast and steady. For the moment, she ignored Clint – because this had to be a dream and there was no way, no way, that it could be him and he could be alive…alive and never having found her. After pulling a bandage out and pressing it to the wound on his neck, the Russian closed her eyes briefly, then slowly opened them and looked up at the man – vampire – standing over them.

For a minute, she just stared at him, pain showing in her eyes at his words. Finally, she slowly shook her head. “I didn’t-that’s not how it happened. I looked for you for years. Then I-I ran into Steve, and we were both so tired and in so much pain and we just…needed someone. I needed someone. Some way to prove I hadn’t grown cold.” A tear gathered at the corner of one eye, then slid slowly down her cheek, dropping onto James’ face. “I was supposed to be sterile. I, I guess because of the serums we had both been given in our past…” She shook her head, suddenly realizing she was falling apart, and just stared at him.

“You were gone. Dead.” By all rights, he still was.
