Re: 9pm Oliver and OPEN
"Oh yeah? I might take you up on that—and the new guy too, if he wants to be helpful," Avram said. "Maybe he'd be down to help with that town-surveying project, since it'd do double duty as a guided tour of the place." The map was a safe sort of project, he thought; after all, They could have deleted Chase's map off the computers any number of times and hadn't, and several times Their tasks had involved knowing one's way around town. A simple surveying project shouldn't attract any trouble.
"Anyway, my obsession of the moment—it's kinda dumb to try to make plans without information security, right?" he went on. "Loose lips sink ships. I want to teach some low-tech cryptography methods, which will get broken, but for time-sensitive material like an escape plan, they could work long enough. And it's like, a gesture of defiance, almost? That we're not just submitting to a lack of privacy." He knew Evie wasn't entirely sold on the idea, and for pretty good reasons, but Avram felt like psychological benefits were nothing to sneeze at in place like this. "So I have ideas. What would be great are beta-testers to tell us if the basic techniques are easy to use, hard to use, impractical, intimidating, whatever. Would you be cool with that, just read some written materials over and let me know if they make sense?"
