"That's not true," Kiley pointed out, wagging her finger slightly. "They can resent the people they feel is responsible for us getting punished. People who didn't find their keys. I'm not saying it's fair, or right, but it's fact. I've seen how some people act on the network, so I wouldn't be surprised if there is resentment."
She watched him with the cigarette, wishing again that she'd thought to get a lighter, or matches or something before handing them over. "I don't know if Pam is oblivious or not. I knew people like her back home. People who insult you in the middle of gushing over you and using words like sweetheart. It makes them seem oblivious, or whatever, but I think that's just one way to be a bitch without admitting you're a bitch." Kiley twitched her lips to the side thoughtfully before adding, "It's like people in the south who use the phrase 'bless their heart' after they've insulted someone, like that someone lessens the meaning behind it, you know?"
