Willow definitely wasn't able to fully comprehend what was going on here yet, and so she wasn't focusing on it. Panicking wasn't going to get their shackles off, and that did seem to be the priority at the moment. That, and Madison's energy was rather contagious, and this really felt like an adventure of some sort. It was interesting, if nothing else.
"How so?" Willow asked as they walked, not understanding completely what she meant by that. "I'm not worried," she assured Madison with a faint smile that didn't quite reach her eyes. Worrying was such a waste of energy. And, really, Madison's confidence that she would be able to get them to where they needed to be was enough reassurance for now.
Although she recognized the letters on the signs in front of the buildings, she didn't understand the context of them, or even what a couple of them were. What was a grocery? It was a word she was certainly unfamiliar with. As they walked into The Crown (which didn't make sense! Why would it be called The Crown when it had nothing to do with things placed on the top of the head?), Willow was overcome with the scent of something she couldn't place. It smelled like it would taste delicious, and her stomach growled as she realized very suddenly that she was famished. When had she eaten last? Her stomach growled in response. "What is that smell?" she asked Madison despite her earlier resolve to hold her questions until they were freed, just as her eyes fell on the popped corn behind a counter in the lobby. It smelled so different from the popped corn they would make back home.
