If compliments were going to work in keeping this one's spirits up, Madison could more than do that. She would even compliment the hideous skirt if Willow looked to be getting a little down. Just as long as they didn't screw this up. It was all well and good until Willow asked what movies were. Madison stopped, face falling in a mixture of dread and shock, and she turned as best she could to look Willow straight in the face.
"What are movies?" she repeated, voice breathy as disbelief oozed through it. Who the hell was this girl? Time travel wasn't a thing, she had to remind herself. Or alternate dimensions where film had never been invented. She must be some other sort of sheltered. Really sheltered. Probably the kind who had only left the shelter today. She stood there staring past Willow trying to figure out a way to explain something so given. "Um. Moving pictures that tell stories, basically. People watch them for fun."
Please let that be enough. The kindness shown her by the girl's offer of her cloak made Madison smile. Another pure soul to add to the pile? Fun. "No, keep it. Whatever they put you on might give you the shivers. Some people get them. There's a clothes place somewhere in town, if I get cold maybe we can swing by."
She didn't wait to answer the girl's questions while standing still. Her steps weren't too long that Willow felt dragged along by the arm, but Madison really didn't want to be giving exposition standing still in the cold when they were on a time crunch as it was. "A Blockbuster used to be a place where people rented movies to take home for a limited amount of time." she explained. "But it went under because of the..." she stopped herself. What were the odds that this girl didn't know movies, but knew the Internet? "a thing I'll tell you about later, promise."
They were never going to make good time, walk at a quick pace, but they might make it. If she looked to her right, Madison could see town way down there, which made things easier. Turn on the first right they found, and keep going down. "Do you jog, Willow? I feel like we could do this better if we ran. Or walked briskly. How is your head, very heavy still?"
