Kiley hadn't known what she was expecting out on the lawn, but this was not it. She had expected their rewards or punishments to just be waiting for them somewhere. Not this whole presentation of the boxes. She had squinted into the sky, trying to see who was in the helicopter, but they were too high.
Once the boxes had landed, Kiley walked out to find hers. She wasn't nervous, not like some of the others were. Once she found her subject number, she got the box open and found the lock, key and tools Chase would need to install it. For a very brief, fleeting moment, she wished she had asked for a joint. Brushing that thought aside, she pulled the items out of the box just in time for everyone else to start reacting to what they had received. Mostly the bad. Tears, sobs. Kiley tried not to look, but it was impossible.
When They said punishment, apparently they meant it. And it was terrifying. Kiley couldn't even ask them what they had received, and honestly, she didn't want to know. There was some part of her that wanted to help, or offer comfort, but she tended to only make things worse for people, based on former attempts. In the midst of the devastation, Kiley gathered up her "reward" and started back inside to leave the items outside of Chase's door. Based on what was happening around her, she felt determined never to be in that position herself.
