Pam took Val's friendly gesture as a go-ahead to pull her into a tight hug, as awkward as it was from the side. She couldn't help but think about how she'd prefer Fletcher, but Val was nice, and she smelled good, and they were friends, so Pam saw no problem with it. She held on tight for a moment, then loosening her grip so she could watch more things fall from the sky.
"Do you want to do yours first?" she wondered, doing the best she could at keeping a stiff upper lip. "You probably got something nice, right? Or should I do mine first, like ripping off a bandaid? Oh god, I'm so bad at this."
