Oliver's sudden appearance and following outburst made Edwin sit up a little straighter, and his eyes open a little wider. He felt dumb, not realizing that he would probably set Oliver off in one way or another. He just hadn't been thinking about that at the time. Now, on top of everything, he felt guilt settle in in his gut, and he quickly wiped his face again and cleared his throat.
"Sorry, sorry babe. I just... I dropped the brush," he lied. Given how far across the room the brush was, it wasn't a good lie, either, but even after taking note of this himself, Edwin didn't seem to care if he got caught in the lie or not. He took a deep breath. "I didn't mean to scare you," he tried, but his voice cracked mid-sentence, and he put his hand over his mouth to try to keep things from getting worse.
