"Oh," she replied. "Well, that's cool," Jaime replied. But maybe it wasn't that hard; what did she know? Maybe it was on par with a jet ski or something, and she could do that okay. She hadn't done it often, but when everyone got tired of boards, they'd play around with other water things.
"I want to feel like ... no one's bulletproof, you know? That they're human and they'll fuck up sooner or later. I just figure when that happens even the people who are looking will miss it." It wasn't like they were going to know if say, the zap barrier crashed at the mansion; who the hell was throwing themselves at it every day? Even if they were, what really were the odds they'd happen to try when it was down? and even then, what was to say there weren't backup measures in place?
She didn't imagine a place like this didn't have some sort of safeguard or something. "I think I heard someone trying to break the windows," she said. "One of the rooms near mine sounded like a lot of crash bangs. Didn't stick my head in to see though." She glanced out the window. "Even if they managed, wonder what they'd do. Jump? Hope someone could hear one tiny voice half a mile up over the sounds of the city?" Jaime shook her head slightly. Can't win, don't try.
