"I dunno. Something like this is probably supposed to piss people off. It's like dangling the cage key in front of their faces, then snatching it away. Like everyone can look out at the city and the people and know freedom's just ... two inches of glass away but oph, we can't have it."
She guessed some people were likely in her boat - captive or not, this was still better than home - but she figured most people had lives, families, spouses, children, whatever, that they wanted to get back to. She had no one, and nothing, so this was a step up.
"Maybe there's not a point. I mean, I know the little note thing on the computer said there was a reason but maybe the reason is, hey we're sadists who like to fuck with people," Lana pointed out. "That's all it's been, right? Just fucking with people?" She tilted her head slightly. "Beach house sounds nice though," she added wistfully. "Way better than snow. How haven't people gone crazy from cabin fever yet?" If she wasn't so content to self-entertain with TV and movies and games, she probably would be feeling it more. Maybe everyone else was the same; who knew?
