When she woke up that morning, it was to the weight and warmth of a furry kitten kneading the blanket over her chest. Nick's plaintive little meows had drawn her out of sleep, and she was glad to see him. She'd been concerned, probably disproportionately so, about the fate of the animals. It made her wonder a little if Simms had had an animal, and what became of it. Maybe she'd find someone who might know, and ask. While she imagined there were plenty of people who'd take care of it, if it was still here, she also wouldn't mind adding another pet to her room. Or, she guessed, one of the new people who came in might want one. It didn't much matter either way, but she did worry so about trivial things. So after hanging with Nick for a little bit, she eventually got out of bed. She filled up his food dish from the baggie of food - which she'd have to refill soon - and his water dish from the sink. She smiled a little as he crunched away at his food before she moved to shower. She took longer than usual in the shower, washing the last three days off herself before she finally got out, and dressed. Jeans, a sweater that she thought might've been a little clingy but it felt chilly, so ... it was what it was, and slippersocks on her feet before she headed downstairs. She made a brief stop in the kitchen and helped herself to the breakfast that had been made, and from there she sort of drifted around the house. She wanted to find some way to be helpful, but she wasn't real sure she was equipped to be. She could talk to people, she guessed, or try to clean something. But she wasn't a doctor - or a nurse - and that seemed likely to be what people mostly needed. So eventually she wound herself into the study, reasoning she could see about restocking her reading material. As much as she didn't want to hide away in her room like some recluse, she also did want to spend a little more time with her kitten. So maybe she'd stay downstairs until lunch, then go back up for a little while and maybe see about coming down to help with dinner, or something. Or just see where the day led. Moving to the window, she crossed her arms over her chest as she gazed out at the falling snow. It would be nice when that finally ended, she reflected, but maybe they'd just be snowbound for ... what, the next two, three months? Sighing audibly, she frowned slightly and just continued to watch the snow fall while she lost herself in thoughts, more or less oblivious to her surroundings. |
