Tobias was desperately trying to staunch the bleeding. He had no idea when he had started crying, calling for someone to come help, but no one came. He was covered in Simms blood by the time the other guy stopped breathing. It was an indescribable moment, watching the life literally fade out from behind Simms's eyes. It did something to him, triggered some kind of numbness that seemed to shut down the panic that had been raging throughout his body.
Panting softly, Tobias pulled his hands away from Simms's neck. The napkins were sticky and red and he had to shake one off of his hand when it stuck to his palm. Simms was dead. Tobias's gaze shifted to the wounds in Simms's neck, dark with blood, the flesh torn. There was blood on Simms's lips and chin. Blood on Tobias's hands. His shirt. He could smell some of it under his nose. "Oh god," he breathed before sobbing once. Quivering now, Tobias stepped back. He kept moving until his back hit the wall.
He wasn't sure how long he stood there, staring at Simms's body. All he heard was his own breathing, loud and echoing in his ears. Time ticked on and on... and on... until he finally blinked and realized the Drano was still out. The mayo was bad. Bad meat. Swallowing and tasting bile, Tobias moved numbly to the counter. He dumped the poisoned food into the garbage, just in case. Just in case.
When that was finished, Tobias turned back to Simms, almost expecting him to start laughing. To get to his feet and reach out to choke the life from Tobias for trying to kill him. I didn't mean to! But, didn't he?
Simms was still sitting here, his eyes open and glassy. Tobias carefully walked over to pick the cell keys up from the floor. After a moment, he knelt down beside Simms and dug around in the guy's pocket until he found the cuff keys for Cecilia. His hand gripped the keys and Tobias got to his feet. After another moment of contemplation, he picked up another knife from the counter to help Chase get out of the tape. The numbness seemed to get heavier, and Tobias turned to walk out of the kitchen, his feet heavy with every step. It was over now.
