It took Kate a long minute to find her phone, and she nearly fumbled it as she pulled it out with shaking hands. The message on it... basically not at all what she wanted to read. She could feel the side of her that was rational and competent trying to formulate thoughts, or a plan, or something, but all she could really do was keep herself pressed to the bars in an illusion of freedom and wider space while the rest of her brain ran around in panicked little rabbit circles.
She turned suddenly to put her back to the bars, sliding down slowly until she was sitting, the phone forgotten at her side. She was dizzy, tingling in her hands and feet, her face feeling numb but hot and flushed at the same time. She fought for a deep breath, and then another. "I'm sorry for this," she managed. She had enough presence of mind to understand that it was probably not comfortable being locked in a cell with her at the moment, as little as there was that she could do about it. "Did you find anything?"
