Oliver set the box down on the platform at the edge of the bed and watched as Edwin moved his reading table over to the window. He wanted to argue, that the box would be sturdy enough for now so Edwin didn't have to give up his space, but decided against it, knowing that he really should just appreciate the gesture. Besides, it wouldn't be for too long if he could get the right materials together.
As Edwin did his thing, Oliver reached into the box to pull the tree carefully out. The dark gray, oval pot had actually belonged to Jason's father when he was just out of college. It was made by a friend, with Japanese characters raised up along the edge that none of the McGowans had been able to read. The whole thing was a bit heavy, and while he was pretty certain the box could have held it, it really wasn't something he wanted to chance.
"Thanks, baby." He stepped over to Edwin and set the pot carefully down, looking at it for a moment before gingerly testing the soil with his finger. "Probably could use a drink. Mind if I use one of the cups in the bathroom and then we can get goin'?" It was silly to ask, he knew, but he was such a mix of, well, everything right now that it felt like the one logical thing to do at the moment.
