Kai took a series of several deep breaths, trying desperately not to freak out anymore, but her eyes were glued to the centipede that Lisa had thrown aside. She had looked to Temple, but when she looked back she'd lost track of it and that had given her heart a jolt, until she realized it was crawling up the wall. She backed up a step, then remembered her shirt and darted for it as quickly as possible. She picked it up off the floor by the smallest corner of the hem and shook it vigorously, as though she expected an entire goddamn centipede family to fall out. She was trembling slightly as she pulled it back on.
"I'll trade you," she offered Edwin, weakly. "You check mine for more of those and I'll check yours."
