The instant the screaming started, Oliver jolted awake, his breath inhaling sharply. Hairs tickled the inside of his nose and for a moment his nasal passage burned, only managing to turn his head away from Edwin's in time to sneeze. He blinked awake just as the last words snaked through the door, and he he began detaching himself from Edwin with the proficiency of a younger man who had spent over a decade recombobulating himself in record time after waking up along with a squad of other men.
Though, in all that time there was never a gorgeous man waiting for him on one pillow, and a frog taking up space on his own. That last one caused him to pause his rapid progress, half bent and arm stretched out as he sat poised on the edge of the bed, reaching for his discarded sweatpants. The frog stared at him as if waiting for him to continue. As if giant, naked middle aged men waking up to a panic were par for the course.
It was only the voices from the other side of the door that spurred him into action again, standing to pull the sweatpants on and not hesitating as he scooped the frog up so as not to leave it for Edwin to deal with. The little amphibian seemed to settle itself in his grasp then remain still, aside from its throat expanding and retracting against his finger.
"What happened," he asked as he opened the door, squeezing himself through and closing it behind him so none of the women present got an eyeful of the room's other occupant. He raised his free hand as he took a step toward Kai in an attempt to placate her. "Calm down. Tell me where it is, I'll get it off'a ya." Brave words considering he didn't even know what "it" was.
