Erran leaned over to murmur to Simms. "Okay, man, you wanted a chance to get your side of the story out. Tell it just like you told me earlier, stay nice and calm, don't get rattled." That was the most pointless advice ever given, and not even sincere. The sun rose in the east, water was wet, and Simms would lose his temper when Cecilia needled him.
He stood again to address the court. "Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, some of you are newer to our community. For you, the defendant has always been out of sight and in a jail cell. He's never had a chance to tell his side of the story to the group at large, in his own words. I believe that when you hear my client describe his experiences, his emotions, and his actions, there will be no doubt in your minds as to the verdict." Erran gave Cecilia a very brief glance, lifting an eyebrow slightly, but he knew she wouldn't need even that invitation. "I'd like to call Scott Simms to the stand."
