"Jesus," Marco whispered, the word slipping out before he could stop himself from reacting to Cecilia. He should have been okay with it all when it came to protecting Juno, but Cecilia had still said it so calmly and darkly that it was hard for him not to feel at least a little uncomfortable. He pulled his hand from Juno's, just so he wouldn't have to explain away the chill that went through him as a twitch.
Shifting the baby yet again, he tried to focus on the other parts of the conversation. "No one's gonna find him innocent, Juno," he assured her gently. "I mean, they shouldn't fucking let him out today to begin with, but this afternoon, that's it, right? So, we've just gotta get through the day, and then you're gonna get rid of him, or however this ends up working out, with points. Pretend I didn't say that last part." He nodded, trying to assure himself just as much as he wanted to assure Juno.
