She was watching him look at the baby, and watching how quickly he looked away from it. It made her feel better. She doubted anyone in this place was actually feeling maternal or paternal toward these things, except maybe in brief flashes, but then she doubted herself again: what if she was the only person not taking care of hers properly, just because she'd never had a mother of her own?
