"You would if you were fighting Collectors," Chase joked with little hesitation, nodding to himself. Whether she got the reference or not, it honestly didn't matter. It made him feel better, connecting to something that he knew, that was familiar and concrete and that he could bury himself in when he got back to the house if he needed. He was also glad that she didn't seem to mind his lengthy explanation. He didn't know why he felt so relieved at her reply either, wondering if maybe he should have given her more credit despite the fact that he hadn't really doubted her.
Chase followed after her at an easy pace despite the fact that he was honestly really in the mood to make a beeline for the produce section. He felt like he could smell the strawberries from there.
"Yeah." He nodded, tossing a box of graham crackers into his basket despite having a lack of a real craving for them. They'd hold up for a while if he didn't eat them right away, though he had a habit of eating entire packages in one sitting. "I don't have too many friends back home, so...lots of free time." He looked back to her, then down the aisle more, as if trying to plan ahead for grabbing whatever he might want. "The house has a pretty neat game room. I actually spent all afternoon hanging out in there yesterday." Another look in her direction, feeling like maybe she'd take offense to the fact that he'd been out of his room and hadn't come to socialize with her group. "Not that, you know...going to play cards or whatever with you guys wasn't tempting."
