It could be an empty threat -- a fail safe they planned on executing to keep us in line. It certainly worked on me. As a father, I'm sure you can understand why. Reginald was still trying to get an idea as to what kind of man this Simms was, and he reminded the old Brit a bit of a caged animal. It wasn't hard by any stretch to imagine his guilt. Still, he at least appeared to have genuine love for his son, and for that he had Reginald's sympathy.
