Who: Billy and Evie Where: Around the town When: Mid-late afternoon
Evie was almost disappointed when Jack matched up with Cecilia, as she would have been happy to offer to switch with Pam, even if it would have countered the whole point of this exercise. She was almost disappointed, as Lana got stuck with Pam, and she couldn't help feeling amused by it. Perhaps it was wrong of her to establish an opinion of the other woman without having actually had a real conversation with her, but she hadn't appreciated the way Lana had put her hand up like that, as if Evie was overreacting by taking offense to the suggestion that the women couldn't handle this on their own. It was fucking stupid, and yeah, she was still irritated by being stuck with Billy, but as long as he kept his stupid, antiquated views to himself, she figured they'd get through this.
In any case, she really hoped Pam was annoying the hell out of Lana right now.
She was relieved that things had been pretty quiet so far - she thought it had been anyway; she'd been a bit preoccupied on the way down, looking around to see what kind of surveillance might be on the route into town. She just couldn't believe that they wouldn't be watching them in every part of this whole place. There had to be a reason the barrier was where it was; maybe that was the end of their surveillance? In any case, she did want to take a look at the barrier, even if there wasn't anything visible, from what she understood of what some of the others had experienced. It was possible there wouldn't be anything for her to find, but she couldn't help but want to try.
That wasn't the goal today, though, she reminded herself as she and Billy went into Goose's Grocery and Hardware. It was weird that it was both a grocery and hardware store, she thought as she glanced around. "This is really fucking weird," she muttered, brows furrowed. They were near the produced, and she plucked an apple off a stand. "This all looks really fucking fresh." She wasn't actually talking to Billy, more thinking out loud than anything. How could the fruit still be so fresh looking? Was it poisoned or something; did it get replaced daily? The scope of it all felt impossible to compute.
