Daniel edged back toward the table, moving alongside the newcomer. He did not recognize her on sight, but that meant little. His few hours spent inside the sprawling manse had not given him many opportunities to meet his fellow tenants; if nothing else, he would make sure this party allowed him to meet at least this one.
"I'm Daniel," he said. "And the food's probably good. Jack made me breakfast this morning--" He raised his glass in Jack's direction-- "and it was damn sure better than what I'd have thrown together. I'm sure he didn't skimp on the prep for this, either."
