Kiley's brows drew together in concern. He had been sick? Had anyone even noticed? She hadn't, which made her feel bad. What if he had died? But you already thought he was dead, she reminded herself. Shaking off the thought, Kiley scooted to the edge of the couch. She wondered if the others were nearby, in some weird simulation. Maybe something had been wrong with them, like Reginald's illness.
"You three are the first," Kiley said. "The other woman who reappeared, Gemma... she hadn't been here too long, but she disappeared like everyone else. There's not really any pattern. Sometimes we wake up and people are gone... but no one new has shown up. And then sometimes we wake up and we have one or two newbies. I don't know why they do it that way. I'm glad you're back, and that you're healthy again. I think most of us were pretty convinced that you were all dead."
