Her mind was still reeling from Owen's news about Marco, but Cecilia was determined to push on. Part of her wanted to rush immediately to Marco and see this problem resolved, but rationally she knew it wouldn't be that easy. She could even make things worse. She'd started this town exploration deal, and it felt important to stick to it. So when two o'clock rolled around, she was ready and waiting in the foyer. As promised, she wore Reginald's jacket, and she had Chase's backpack over her shoulders. Her gym bag was resting on one arm, just in case it was needed. Once everyone she'd expected showed up, she gave an awkward wave.
"Thanks again, guys," she said. Jean-Leon's suggestion that she was in any way 'in charge' still bothered her a little, and being singled out in any way by the Them only made it worse. She felt self-conscious of her instincts now, and she hated that. "So I was thinking about this, and we've got six of us, so this would probably go fastest if we split into three teams. Maybe we can knock off a whole street and head back before dark. I was thinking," she went on, pulling a copy of the map they'd been given out of her bag, "that maybe we start from the southwest corner and work our way up. It seems like there's more going on the further north you get, and maybe by the time we work our way there more people will join in. If we give this a try anytime we have a, um, 'free day.'" She folded that map up and pulled out the one Chase had started, as well as a few of her own notes she'd been working on earlier.
"I already looked through the hospital and the pharmacy top to bottom, and Chase tackled the library and the store, plus some of the the office building and the school. So we can put all those on the backburner for now and focus on places that haven't been explored yet. If anyone has someone in particular they want to pair off with, that's cool. Otherwise... we could draw straws?" Her own voice irritated her. She didn't feel like she should be questioning herself, she should have just told people how things needed to be done. A little sensitivity never hurt anyone, she told herself. And she certainly didn't want to look like their lackey.
