"I'm resourceful," Chase replied darkly with no hesitation or uncertainty, and again it felt good. His fingers gripped the handle of the ax even harder until an ache shot up to his elbow, ready to swing the second the man moved. "Try me and you'll wish I used the ax."
He wanted to tell Simms that he knew what the man had done in the house, because in his mind there was no question now, but he wasn't going to keep Juno there. He didn't have much faith in the people at the house right now, but something like this was probably better in numbers. He could grab his bag later, maybe. "Yeah," he told Juno, his eyes remaining on Simms even as he nodded. "Grab a stick. Something heavy." He could feel Juno pause, but didn't say anything. Two weapons were better than one, even if they were leaving. He twisted the ax so the blade was down, speaking to Simms. "You wait there for five minutes. If you come after us, you'll have to crawl up that hill without any feet." When Juno was done finding her stick, he backed his way up the hill at an easy pace, obviously not about to put his back to the man on the ground.
