"I've got my eye on a few things, assuming no one's snapped them up yet," Kate said. She wasn't lollygagging on the bike, but she wasn't trying to turn the trip into town into the Tour de France, either. They'd pick up enough speed on the downhills to make good time without having to try very hard. "Last time I was in there, they had some very nice fabrics cut into some very ugly pieces. I'm pretty confident they're still going to be there." It wasn't as good as having an entire fabric store at her fingertips, but she had more than enough practice reworking trash into treasure. She couldn't make a ballgown out of a pair of ugly bell bottoms, but she also couldn't think of a pair of bell bottoms she'd ever want to turn into a dress, either.
She had her own empty bag on her back, the gym bag that had been provided; she could fit a fair amount in there. "I wonder if I could get a serger and maybe an embroidery machine, too." Or some heavier-duty needles for the sewing machine they had. She was grateful to finally have an artistic outlet that wasn't doodling on scrap paper, so she wasn't going to complain about anything, but she did miss her studio back home. "Anyway," she said, back on the subject, "the things I want should fold up small. It won't be a big deal if I have to share space with the groceries." It had been a good idea to combine a foraging trip with a trip to Cassi's; Kate was actually pretty fine with the fruits and veggies in the house, but Edwin had a good point about having things stockpiled so they didn't have to go to town. Or in the case that they couldn't.
