Who: Cecilia and Owen (and Neptune, obvs)
When: Morning
Where: Their room
When he first woke that morning, Owen immediately felt off. He wasn't entirely sure why, although he imagined it probably had something to do with being unable to fall asleep until well past three in the morning. That wasn't unusual, though, and yet he still felt an uneasiness in the pit of his stomach. Rubbing a hand over his face, Owen glanced over to see Cecilia laying there, still sleeping. He stared at her for a good, long minute, because it felt as though his discomfort was tied into her presence somehow. Sure, there was that awkwardness, but it was... less awkward today. He didn't understand it.
Owen sat up, prompting Neptune to roll over in his direction. He reached over to scratch the dog behind his ears, and Neptune released an approving chuff. Being fully awake now, Owen wondered if maybe a walk and a cup of coffee would get himself back on track. He was about to push away the blankets to slip out of the bed when it all came rushing back to him. Being awake, but being unable to move, or talk. The noises in the room. That thing approaching the bed.
His breathing hitched in his chest, and Owen looked at Cecilia again. That thing, with the bird mask... he recognized the look of it from somewhere. A book, maybe. A movie? Owen couldn't really remember. But whoever it had been had done something to Cecilia. The swabs, and the razor. Jars. Had it been a dream? Now that he was remembering, Owen recalled how real it had felt. It was like the residuals of that nightmare had lingered inside of him when he woke. Almost immediately, he lifted his hand to the back of his neck where the implant was located. It had touched him too. Poking at his neck. Jesus, if it had been a dream, what the hell prompted it? But it could have been real. In this place, anything was possible.
Fuck it. Owen reached over and touched Cecilia's shoulder, squeezing gently to try and wake her up. "Hey, Cecilia." He didn't want to sound frantic and risk scaring her. "Hey."
