"So you think sex without love means being ashamed the next morning?" Kiley raised a brow and set her water down to reclaim the bag of cookies. "Because I can tell you from experience, that's not how it works. There's nothing wrong with having sex and not turning into mush or waxing poetic about their eyes, and bullshit like soulmates. That's not real life." Kiley figured to Pam it was, because Pam seemed to live in a fantasy world. She reached into the bag of cookies and pulled one out, leaning casually against the kitchen counter again now that she felt like she'd found her footing again.
"Romance novels are fiction," Kiley pointed out. "Not real. People write them to escape real life. People read them for the same reason, especially married women." She smiled briefly. "I know no one I care about is in jail, because there are very few people I care about." She refrained from mentioning that They had informed her that she hadn't even been reported missing yet, so the possibility of her uncle, or even Trevor, being in trouble for her disappearance was slim. "All I'm saying is, you've been gone over a month. Statistics prove that when a woman goes missing, it's because her boyfriend or husband did something to her. You honestly can't tell me you haven't thought about that possibility. You know what friends and family always say when a husband is a suspect in his wife's disappearance... they talk about how perfect a couple they were. How happy. Then it all explodes and turns out to be nothing but a lie."
