Hannon had had a list in his pocket when he'd left his house this morning. All day during his shift at the hospital he'd kept track of it, making sure he didn't throw it away with the other bits of rubbish he collected in his pocket over the course of the day. He knew he was tempting fate in carrying the list around him all day since he tended to lose anything he was responsible for for longer than an hour or two, but he really felt like today would be the day he'd beat that particular personality flaw. He'd even still had the list in his pocket when he'd ended his shift. He'd had it when he put on his coat and collected his things from his locker. He was pretty sure he still had it when he finally got into his car and drove away.
When he arrived at the grocery store, however, and grabbed a basket from the pile at the door he reached into his pocket for his list and come up empty handed. He'd searched all his pockets, those in his pants and all the ones in his coat, he checked his wallet but just couldn't find it!
Hannon convinced himself it was okay, that it wasn't so long as far as lists went and after thinking about it, he was pretty sure he'd remembered everything. "Bread, milk, eggs, peanut butter, Captain Crunch." He said aloud again as he dropped a head of lettuce into his basket and smugly headed towards the milk and butter.
