Spring Breakout!
Who: Jayne & Maegan
Where: Disney World!
When: backdated to Monday, March 16, 2009
What: It's hot at Disney and Jayne doesn't own shorts. There's coercion to get shorts, discussion of naughty things and perceptions of others
Disney World rocked. He'd been to Disney Land as a kid years before, but never Disney World and never like this. They'd gotten a handicapped tag for the rides and had been zipping around the park to cut in line to ride the rides they wanted to do and see the things without the wait time. It was awesome. Now though, he was exhausted. Jayne wasn't used to pushing himself in his wheelchair quite so much and even with more arm and shoulder muscle than most people suspected, this was different movements from when he used crutches to walk. Sitting at a picnic table, he waited for Maegan to bring their lunch back. It was also hotter than Hades here and humid. He felt sticky and gross, even if it was the time of his life.
Maegan had heard that Disney was an amazing place to go. She'd always dreamed of going someday, but hadn't really thought it would happen. Somehow it had all fallen into place for break, and she had to admit it was better than she'd even imagined. The fact that they didn't have to wait was an added bonus, though she would've gladly stood in every line to enjoy the entire park. Only problem was Florida was hot. Hotter than even Tennessee in the summer. Which was why she was glad she had packed a lot of bathing suits. Since she'd spent the entire day at the park dressed in nothing but her bikini top and black shorts. Along with flip flops of course! Returning to the picnic table where Jayne was waiting, juggling their food, she set it down with a smile. "It's so hot. I don't even know if I can eat."
"Drink," he suggested, taking a bottle of water from her before setting his own food down. The prices for food in the park were crazy! Opening the bottle, he downed a good quarter of it before even looking at his food. Maegan definitely had the right idea for attire though, unlike Jayne who was wearing long jeans and a t-shirt, knee high white socks and sneakers. He was wearing way too much. Maegan however, looked hot and not from the weather. He wanted to beat all the men staring at her, but he contented himself to simply looking smug and holding her hand as much as possible. They were together and he wanted everyone to know it. "My jeans are soaked," he said, so was most of his shirt and hair. He was a sweaty boy.
Maegan nodded, grabbing her own water and taking a generous gulp. She wasn't ignorant to the things you needed to do in order to keep yourself from passing out in the heat. Water was one of them. Glancing down at him as he spoke, she smirked a little, shaking her head while she swallowed the gulp of water. "That might be because you have on too many clothes, babe. Didn't you pack any shorts?" She could tell he was sweltering. Wearing pants and pushing himself were probably key factors as to why he was so hot. Maegan had tried to push him as much as he'd allow, which so far hadn't been much.
"I don't own shorts," he replied shortly. That wasn't wholly true, he had gym shorts and sleep shorts. He did not own any denim shorts or anything similar. He disliked showing his braces to people, even his pajamas that were sometimes worn in the dorm were pants. Maegan was one of the few people who had seen his braces and his legs in them. "It's not that hot in Idaho."
"You don't own shorts?!" she repeated, disbelief all over her expression. Maegan couldn't comprehend that. Well, in a way she could, but not when they were in a place that could rival Hell for temperature. Taking a seat across the table, she picked up her sandwich, eying the thing warily as she contemplated how long she could survive without energy. "But it's hot here. We need to get you some shorts. I don't want you passing out from heat stroke."
As much as Jayne loathed shorts, he was beginning to think she might have a point there. Heat stroke would be bad. "I'm fine," he protested, picking his own sandwich up and taking a bite. Thank goodness it was a cold sandwich right now and not anything hot. He didn't need more heat. "I don't like shorts. Unless they're on you," he added, leering a little. He loved what she was wearing.
Maegan nearly sighed at his response, but managed to resist. That would only irritate him if she pushed and got bossy. She had to be a bit sneakier than that, and his next reply gave her an idea. Smirking a little, she shrugged slightly, chewing a bite of her sandwich and studying him as if in deep thought. "I liked them on me at first too, but now I feel kind of chilly. Overexposed," she said thoughtfully. "Seeing how much you have on makes me think I should put more on too. You look nice and warm. I want to be too."
Maegan obviously knew him way too well by this point. "What do you mean? You hate it when I'm all sweaty and nasty," he asked, the sandwich helping to cool him off a little and his stomach began to settle. "And you look good. If you put on more clothes you'll just get all hot and nasty like me."
"Hate it? No. Being sweaty can be fun," she commented idly with a slight shrug. Maegan took another bite of the sandwich, glad that it wasn't toasted or anything silly like that. The last thing she wanted was hot food at that point. Though if he kept being stubborn she would have to start adding layers. Ugh. "You look good like that too. And I think it could be fun to be all hot and nasty with you." Hopefully this would work and she would not have to resort to adding layers.
"Fine," he sighed, momentarily defeated, "What do I have to do to keep you in a bikini?" he asked. "And I definitely would not mind getting sweaty and nasty with you. But that's not really something to do at Disney," was she really proposing what he thought? This was going to be an AWESOME spring break!
Maegan smirked, but kept her true triumphant feelings to herself. No sense rubbing it in. "Find yourself some shorts," she answered simply. It wasn't a problem if he wanted pants, until he passed out from heat exhaustion. Even if he claimed he was fine there was a chance. And why be uncomfortable? His words brought her out of her thoughts, though, and she blinked at him for a moment. Did he mean that? Smiling slowly, she shrugged. "There's a lot of time. Some of which we won't be at Disney..." The statement hung suggestively, on purpose, and she took a sip of water as she watched for his reaction.
This was really a no brainer. "Fine. Shorts. Not here though. I'm not buying disney shorts. We can find a taxi to target or see if the hotel shuttle goes to the mall tonight or something. And no laughing," he knew she wouldn't, but he had to say it anyways. He hated how his legs looked in shorts now. It wasn't that they were scared or skinny or anything, they were perfectly normal looking boy legs, it was just the damn braces. He hated them showing. "I don't like it."
"That's fair. I wouldn't expect you to wear shorts from here," she agreed. That would just be too embarrassing. Maegan didn't understand what the big deal was. Maybe it was because she didn't have braces she would rather keep hidden. She had scars, though, and they were currently on display. Not quite the same. "Of course I wouldn't laugh. You've got great legs. I don't know why you wouldn't like it."
Her scars weren't that obvious, at least not to Jayne. Not like having metal and leather strapped to his legs. "Great legs?" he laughed in disbelief, "Now I know you've got sunstroke," but they weren't bad legs as legs went. They were just not working so well. "But fine. You won. And we gotta go swimming too. I did bring a swim suit," because swimming did not involve wearing his braces so he was okay with it.
Shaking her head, Maegan chose to ignore the sunstroke comment. It wasn't worth going back and forth over. "Oh. The pool is definitely calling my name. Water rides just aren't the same. They don't get you as wet." And Maegan was dreaming of getting to dip into a cool pool. Sunbathing was fun, rides were fun, but there was nothing like a good swim. Maybe with a float to relax on too.
That was the truth, though water slides were pretty awesome. "I like water slides though," he looked down as if just now realizing something, "I guess I can't do those anymore. I just thought of that," because so far as he knew, there was no way to go up one in a wheelchair and there was no elevator or such. And he couldn't go down one with a wheelchair or in braces. Hum. He'd have to think of a way to manage it because he liked water slides, "That sucks."
"Water slides have merit," she mused, noticing the look on his face before he spoke, Maegan watched him carefully. It was always delicate ground in these situations. Too much sympathy and she was pushed away, too little and it would seem callous. "I could piggy back you up. I'd even let you hold onto my boobs for better grip. Then we could slide together," she said, wiggling her eyebrows suggestively. Jokes were the way to go, and the most natural for her.
Oh, now there was an image! He couldn't help but laugh either, "Thanks for the offer," he managed between cackles, "I think I'll just think about the options for the moment and figure something out. But definitely swimming. That's all good. And you can do water slides and I'll ride the lazy river with the other old farts," he was trying not to do the woe is me stuff, but when sudden realizations hit like this, and it was more frequent than he liked to admit, it was sobering. It had only been a year. Not quite 13 months since he'd been shot, he was still adjusting to his new body.
Maegan couldn't help but laugh at that image either. It was just entirely too amusing. She was a bit disappointed when he refused, and she shrugged a little. "Suit yourself. Offer's there if you change your mind." She smiled at him, trying to keep his mind on the happy things. She often wished she could fix him herself so she wouldn't have to see that look on his face when he thought about certain things. But unfortunately it wasn't possible. "I don't know. Water slides are dangerous. I once lost my top on one," she admitted. It had been rather embarrassing.
"See, I have no problem with that," he smirked at the mental image. Jayne could see her dying of embarrassment or something when her top came off. "Shannon pulled my shorts off once at the community pool. I was on the diving board and there he went! I was mortified," it hadn't helped that he hadn't given them back either. Shannon was a turd like that. "I'd rather your top come off where fewer people could see it, but a topless Maegan is something I approve of."
"I think I would have paid good money to see your pants come off on the diving board. No lie," she commented, wiggling her eyebrows for effect. Maegan chuckled then, unable to get the image out of her mind. And he seemed to find her embarrassing story amusing, so it was only fair. "Fewer people? How many are allowed to see me with my top off?" she asked, raising an eyebrow curiously.
"Oh, well," Jayne paused to consider. "Me. Definitely. And maybe your roommate because you're girls and roommates and stuff. Changing happens. And...yeah, that's all I got. But that's definitely fewer people. And anyways, roommates don't get to touch. Nope," some guys like the girl on girl fantasy and Jayne was no exception, but not when it was his girlfriend. Random girls only. He was okay with being hypocritical.
Maegan laughed, shaking her head and giving him another raised look. "Maybe my roommate? Am I supposed to change in the bathroom then?" She knew he was joking, since he had pretty much said it was alright. His wording was just amusing. "You're right, roommates don't touch. I'm not big on girl on girl," she said with a laugh. Maegan didn't have anything against girls who liked other girls, it just was not for her. "Just so long as I'm the only one who sees you with pants off, we're good."
"Well, duh," because Jayne DID change his pants in the bathroom instead of in front of his roommate. It went back to the whole not showing his braces thing. "But I like your bikini. So fine, I'll get shorts. Okay?" he asked, finishing his sandwich and drink. He was feeling better now that he was relaxing and out of the sun.
"Sorry, but I like changing in my room. So you'll just have to deal with me being an exhibitionist in front of my roommate," she told him with a smile. Maegan didn't strip down naked in front of people. But a quick change with underwear still on was another story. "And yes, we have an agreement. So I'll keep the layers off for today. But if you don't hold up your end, no more bikini. Ever."
"Fine. Tonight we'll find something. But don't laugh. Or I'll bikini you!" what kind of a threat that was, he had no idea, but it was the one he was using. After a thoughtful minute he said, "You really don't think I'll look stupid?" he wanted her honest opinion. "I hate being stared at," and people stared as it was. This would just make them stare more.
Maegan laughed at that, shaking her head. "What does that even mean?" she asked in between laughter. It didn't matter though. He went thoughtful for a moment, and when he spoke she sobered her expression a little. Didn't want him to think she was laughing at him. "No I don't. I never think you'll look stupid," she told him honestly. Maegan didn't like when people stared at Jayne, but it was something she couldn't control. "If they stare, then they're idiots. Which the majority of people are anyway. So fuck them."
"Tempting though that is..." he smiled, though it was a little forced, "I don't know. I get that it's hot here and stuff. I get it. And jeans probably aren't a good idea. I just hate it. Didn't think it would be this hot here in March, I guess," what had he expected from Florida? It was a state of beaches.
"Florida is always hot from what I hear. Or almost always," she said with a shrug. Maegan had never been there, obviously, but that's what she'd been told. Now that she was actually experiencing it, she thought hot was a gross understatement. "People suck. Why make yourself uncomfortable so they feel better?"
How could he explain it? "Because..." he shrugged and looked away before turning back to Maegan, "it's not about them. I look weird, they stare, then I feel weird and it goes in a circle. And it's easy to say 'fuck it' except it's not so easy to DO it, you know? People stare at you 'cause you're pretty and they want to BE you. Not because they pity you and are glad they AREN'T you," he tried to explain.
Maegan listened as he spoke, feeling sympathy for him. She knew how that felt, maybe not because she wore braces and couldn't walk, but she knew. And she would have given anything to have her be the one that was stared at and had such difficulties. "If I could switch things around, I would," she began softly. She would've gotten mad at anyone else for presuming things were so easy for her, but she couldn't get mad at Jayne. Not for that. "And honey, believe me, people haven't always stared at me for those reasons. People back home gave me those same pity looks for different reasons. And really, even ones who may or may not think I'm pretty where I am now should not want to be me. So, I can understand. Not completely, but at least a little bit." Maegan didn't like the self pity or woe-is me. She was just stating a fact.
"Everything's easier said than done, but you have me to help. At least you don't have to do it alone."
Jayne smiled, this time a genuine one, Maegan was right. And he was being way too emo for Disney. "Okay. So. We have a pass here all day," he said, changing the subject, "we can leave for shorts and come back later if we want or do more here and then go get shorts. The park doesn't close until like, late. We haven't been to the Animal Kingdom yet. And we can come back tomorrow too."
Welcoming the subject change, as thinking about the less than pleasant events of her past were not appropriate for Disney, Maegan smiled. At least she had been able to help him feel a little better. "I vote we go get shorts then come back. I definitely don't want my boyfriend passing out from heat exhaustion. Other exhaustion would be preferable," she said with a wink. She let the implications lie there, especially since they were still in a park for children. "We should definitely come back tomorrow, though. There's way too much to see in one day."
Nodding, Jayne gathered up their trash and setting it and the tray on his lap, "In that case, one request. Let's get a snack or something before we come back here and then a later dinner? These park prices are insane," he grinned and turned to throw the trash away before going to catch the park shuttle so they could get into town. That was one of the nice things about Disney, there were shuttles practically everywhere.
