Who ? Mr. Smith, Mateo, Keegan, briefly O Where ? Mr. Smith's sitting room When ? Sunday afternoon What ? Mateo arranges a family lunch and doesn't invite Keegan
Mateo had made plans through O to share a meal with his father that afternoon. He'd told O there would be three of them, himself, his brother, and Mr. Smith. Lunch was arranged for one in the afternoon and Mateo e-mailed his brother that they would be taking the meal at two. O hadn't disappointed him when Mat instructed he prepare a meal that was refined but comfortable. His father's doormat had makde sushi and sticky rice for the meal, both sophisticated and fun to eat. There was also a miso soup appetizer and some artfully designed fruit and chocolate plates for dessert.
He had been curious to see if Mr. Smith would wait for Keegan to arrive before they started or if they would actually be able to eat. He was sure he was going to find out within the next three minutes which would bring the minute hand on the clock exactly to the twelve. O brought their soup so they wouldn't have to wait to eat placing one bowl in front of Mr. Smith, one in front of Mateo and one by the empty seat where Keegan was supposed to be.
"I wonder where Keegan is," Mateo mused aloud, although he already knew the answer, and looked from the door to his father.
