Log: Minnie/Rye/River
Who: Minnie, Rye, and River at the end! When: (Backdated) Last Saturday evening Where: Rec Room What: Minnie decides to act out Push so Rye can "see". Hilarity ensues. Notes: It got long. Surprised?? XD
Minnie was actually looking forward to tonight. It wasn't everyday you got to randomly hang out with a friend. Not to mention reenacting an entire cinematic experience after only seeing it once. A smile spread across her lips at the thought, and she gathered up the snacks she had prepared. As promised, Minnie had made cookies for the evening. An entire batch of chocolate chip ones, though some of them had peanut butter chips in them also. They were for her, though she hoped to maybe expand Rye's cookie love to different sorts. Since she was a girl with an appetite, she also made some popcorn. He'd mentioned it, and she'd been craving it ever since.
With everything gathered up, she made her way down to the rec room. She was dressed in jeans and a cute top, not that it really mattered, but it was comfortable. Her hair was left down, as she'd been too rushed after she'd showered that morning to do anything with it. Again, Rye was just a friend, so it wasn't a big deal. Plus he wouldn't know if she looked bad or not. Nor would he care she liked to think. Everything was tucked under her arms securely, and she was the first to arrive in the designated meeting spot. Setting everything on the table, she waited, pulling out the soda she had shoved into the pockets of the hoodie she'd worn just for extra carrying space. Minnie wasn't sure what kind he liked, so had brought a couple to choose from.
Rye definitely would not have known nor cared what she wore or did with her hair. He couldn't tell the difference, anyway, unless she let him feel up her face and hair again. He'd done so once, when they were alone a while ago, gentle fingers blindly searching out her features like any blind person would do. He hadn't said much about it at the time.
Either way, the boy was currently on his way to the rec room for his private 'movie night'. He lifted a hand to brush his hair over the bandanna, letting it settle where it wanted to before opening the rec room door. He knew she was there already, so he headed straight for her, "Hey, Minnie. Is it movie time, yet?" The door closed behind him and he came to a stop beside her, hands in his jean pockets, the sleeves of his gray long sleeved t-shirt pushed up towards his elbows.
Turning at the sound of someone approaching, Minnie smiled. "Not quite yet. Don't you want snacks first??" She laughed a little at the idea that she was really going to try and act out something as absurd as Push. "I have to get into my many characters too. It's a real shame I couldn't get Chris Evans to help me," she mused as she watched him. She certainly hoped he was hungry. Though she knew he would never turn down cookies. That was the good thing about boys, including Rye. They were easily appeased by food.
"I brought some drinks too. Because it will likely take me awhile. That, and who can eat popcorn and cookies without something to drink."
Rye lifted his nose a bit and sniffed, "Mmm, I smell cookies and popcorn. A woman of your word, aren't you. And who's Chris Evans?" He reached slowly towards the bowl of popcorn, making sure he was touching the right thing before taking a small handful and lifting it up to pop the kernels into his mouth, "Is he one of the actors in the movie?" He tilted his head at her as he chewed, waiting for her answer.
Minnie nodded, glad that he seemed happy she had indeed brought both. "Of course. I can't spoil someone if I don't follow through." She took a bit of popcorn herself, munching a bit before she swallowed so she could answer his question. "Yeah he's the main actor. Totally awesome. Not to mention pretty nice to look at," she replied. Minnie was a girl after all. Even if she walked around on a ray of sunshine and made cookies for anyone who would eat. She still liked to look at boys.
He snickered, "I won't know about that. I obviously can't see the movie I'm about to watch, and that's why you're here." He shifted and then fell back to settle onto the plush couch, "But I'm sure if he knew you were in love with him, he'd come meet you. How could he not be lured by your cookies? What kind did you bring this time, anyway?" He sniffed at the air again, trying to figure that out for himself.
"I am not in love with him. He's just good eye candy," she returned. It wouldn't be an unwelcome idea to have Chris Evans be lured in by cookies. Hers, to be exact. Minnie smiled at the thought, shaking her head in amusement. "I'll have you know that I would never use my powers of baking for such trivial measures. It would be unfair." Pulling the plate closer as he sniffed, she held it out to him so he'd be able to take one. "Chocolate chip, of course. Though some of them have peanut butter chips in them too." Minnie was a big fan of the chocolate-peanut butter combo.
"Right, that's the sort of power you should only use for the general good." He nodded as if that made complete sense, then took a cookie from the plate. He took a bite and chewed, then smiled a bit, "Definitely a good addition." He put the rest of the cookie in his mouth, then lifted his hands to rest them behind his head on the back of the couch, "But still... you should send him some! I'm sure he couldn't resist finding out who made them. If anyone named Chris asks for you, I'll tell him your room number."
Minnie nodded at his statement, completely agreeing. "Exactly. Use the cookie power for good, not personal gain." Not that someone could really use baked goods to get anything of value, but it was a nice thought. She was pleased he seemed to like the new ingredient, and took one for herself before putting the plate down. "Oh yeah. And get labeled as a crazy celebrity stalker? No thanks," she told him with a slight laugh. "Maybe not anyone named Chris. I don't want weirdos knowing where my room is."
He snorted and shifted lower on the couch, getting a bit more comfy, "There are enough weirdos here in the school who know where your room is. Including me. Besides, you wouldn't be a stalker, just a big fan. I'm sure he gets lots of stuff in the mail... like... panties. Now that would make you a stalker, sending him used panties or something." He wrinkled his nose a bit, moving the blindfold just a tad as he did so.
"At least you and the other weirdos here are just kids. And I could overpower you with my ability," she reasoned. How they had gotten started on her snagging Chris Evans for herself was beyond her, but it was an amusing line of conversation. "Who would send someone used panties? That's gross." Minnie mirrored his expression, wrinkling her nose at the thought. "Now if you're sending underwear, send unused. Like a brand new pair. Gets the point across without the unsanitary aspects."
Rye paused for a moment before breaking out into laughter at her comments about the sanitary value of panties. What a strange conversation this turned out to be! He moved a hand from his head to point at her, "Admit it, you're thinking about it now. Just don't ask me which pattern to get on the panties to send to this Chris guy. I'm sure he'll appreciate anything you send him, as long as you send a baggie of cookies along with it." He shook his head, then leaned forward to snatch another cookie from the plate and chew on it.
Minnie started to laugh as he pointed at her in a playfully accusing manner. She shook her head, holding her hands up defensively. "No. I'm not thinking about sending underwear to celebrities. I don't want to end up on one of those weird stalker shows," she insisted. It was hard not to smile, though, since the topic had definitely taken an interesting turn. "And what is it with you and my cookies? Are you saying you'd take underwear from me so long as I sent you cookies?" Her tone was teasing as she watched him take another cookie, deciding to grab one for herself too.
"What?? What would I do with a pair of your underwear?" He snickered and grinned at her before popping the rest of the cookie into his mouth to chew on. He waited until he'd chewed most of it up before speaking again, "But you're cookies are just that good, you know? A guy would take just about anything from you in order to have some to eat. Or maybe that's just me." He licked his lips and rested his hands behind his head again as he leaned back with a smile. Minnie was fun to be with. He should hang with her more often.
"I don't know. Whatever guys do with girls underwear when it isn't still on the girl?" Minnie had no idea. She wasn't innocent by any means, but she certainly didn't give boys underwear. Nor had a boy ever seen her underwear on her. "So you're saying my cookies are like your kryptonite?? Interesting," she said, placing a finger on her chin thoughtfully. Rye didn't give himself enough credit. He was entirely too amusing. She took a bite of her cookie, munching in silence for a moment. Sometimes she really had to pat herself on the back for these cooking skills.
He chuckled a little and shook his head, "I'm not even sure what guys do with girl's undies... I mean, other than the pervy stuff. Which I wouldn't do, by the way." He wrinkled his nose again and did his best not to flush, just a bit of pink showing up on his upper cheeks. He shook his head again, "And kryptonite I think is the wrong word. Isn't that the stuff that hurts Superman? Your cookies do anything but hurt me. Unless you put glass in them and didn't tell me." He tilted his head towards her as if accusing her again.
Minnie noted the flush on his cheeks, but didn't comment on it. She hadn't meant to embarrass him. Though it was certainly a topic that would lead to such feelings. "It's good to know you're not a perv. I'm filing that away for later. It deserves more random cookie surprises." She nodded as if sealing the statement, reaching to the table so she could bring the popcorn over to her. Maybe she should've eaten dinner. "See, I'm bad with all that stuff. Obviously," she replied, laughing at her bad analogy. "And of course I didn't!! Would I do something like that to you???" Or anyone for that matter.
Rye snickered at her comment about filing the fact away. Hopefully that'll get him some points, or future cookies. Cookies are always welcome. He shook his head again with a smile, "No, you wouldn't do that to anyone, I think. You're too nice for your own good sometimes, Minnie. I hope no one walks all over you for it." He lifted his socked feet to rest them on the table, off to the side and away from the food. They bumped a soda can and he had to adjust their position again before he knocked it over, "Oops.. was that a soda?"
"I don't mind being nice to people. If you're nice to them, they'll be nice back." Maybe it was a naive way of seeing things, but Minnie firmly believed it. Sure, she knew some people got annoyed with her positive nature. And sometimes the crueler people made her cry. But she just shrugged it off and moved on. Some people did take advantage of her, but she didn't seem to mind. As long as they were happy. As he lifted his feet, accidentally bumping one of the unopened cans, Minnie used her power to steady it as it wobbled. "Yeah it was, but it didn't fall. And it wasn't open anyway," she replied with a laugh.
He definitely thought that was a naive way of thinking. Rather than saying so, as he would to just about anyone but Minnie, he shifted forward to grab the can that Minnie had saved, "What kind is it? Hey, and when does the movie start? Is the actress getting cold feet?" He grinned at her as he felt at the top of the can top, trying to figure out what kind it was on his own. Some have curved tabs, some more square, some rounded. He simply had to remember which brand was which... which was hard to do.
"That one's sprite. I also brought coke and root beer. Because I wasn't sure what you liked," she answered, ignoring the movie comment for the time being. Instead, Minnie popped a few kernels in her mouth, chewing as she watched Rye try and figure out what the soda was. Hopefully he didn't get annoyed she'd answered before he could guess. "The movie will start soon. This actress needs her fuel before she can perform."
Rye's fingers traced the tab again as he was told it was a Sprite. He didn't mind that kind of soda, so he memorized the curve of it before popping it up and opening the tab, "Thanks. All of those are good enough for me. Want one?" He reached his free hand out to slide over the rest of the cans, "Tell me which one. The actress needs something to drink if she's going to be talking so much. And you realize facial expressions and stuff like that is beyond me, right?" He waited for her answer about the sodas before picking up the one she wanted and handing it to her.
Nodding at his gratitude, she munched on her popcorn, glad he liked the choices she'd brought. "Sure. I'll take the coke. It's in the middle," she told him. Caffeine and Minnie were usually things people liked to keep separate, but she'd need energy for this. "I do. But I can sit next to you and you could feel the expressions if you wanted. Otherwise I can just run my mouth and stand in front of you doing my best to portray all the stuff that happened." At least the telekinetic parts would be easy. Though she most likely wouldn't be moving anything. Taking the coke as he handed it to her, she popped the top, sipping a generous gulp right away. Salty popcorn and all.
He handed her the soda she'd chosen, then leaned back on the couch with the Sprite in both hands to keep it from spilling, "Nah, stay sitting next to me. If expressions are needed, I can feel them, if you don't mind. Otherwise, I can see your movements and fingers and everything, so that's all fine." He shifted on the couch to face her more, lifting one leg up onto the cushions to sit half-Indian style and turn his attention to her completely, "Ready when you are!"
"Of course I don't mind. I wouldn't have suggested it otherwise." Minnie took another sip of her soda, watching him with a slight smile, she shook her head. There was no way this would end without her looking foolish. Too bad she didn't have Eidetic memory so she could recall every single second of the movie. "Alright, Mr. Impatient. I'm ready. But you can't laugh unless I am too!"
Rye grinned, holding back a laugh already, "Aww, c'mon Minnie. You're going to look like an idiot and I'm going to laugh. But you can be sure I'll pay attention to the plot and stuff. This is a movie I'm watching, anyway, and it's not a comedy!" He shifted once more to pick up the bowl of popcorn and set it between them on the couch so they could both dig in while they're there, then took a handful for himself before sitting back and watching her again.
Minnie chuckled a little, shaking her head. He was right. This was going to be funny. "True enough. But if I get it wrong then you can't blame me for you spreading wrong plot points to people," she said. Taking a deep breath, she popped a few more kernels of corn into her mouth as she readied herself. Without waiting, she launched into the "movie." It was really just Minnie sitting next to Rye, legs crossed, explaining Push in as much detail as she could remember. She pretended to be each character to the best of her ability, having a lot of fun with Chris' character in particular. She even spoke in a deeper voice, overly masculine because that's how she saw him, and puffed out her chest when she acted out his parts.
He lifted his hands innocently when she told him not to blame her, and she launched straight into the movie. He had to laugh right away when she puffed her chest out like that and spoke in that low voice, trying to play the male part so perfectly. He covered his mouth with a hand, though, not wanting to interrupt her so early in the movie. She went on with a laugh, though, and he was glad she took no offense. He settled back against the arm of the couch with a grin and watched her, head moving with her animated movements and flailings to see each gesture and hand signal, even when she stood up on the couch.
True to her word, she went through the entire movie this way. Every detail, that she could remember, though not so detailed as she got boring. (Mainly because she couldn't remember every single nuance.) There was a lot of flailing on her part. Minnie took care to make her actions big, even standing up when she needed to. On the couch, not the floor, because it was funnier that way. Her expressions were just as exaggerated, and she didn't mind when he reached out and felt them. As the movie drew to a close, she was a bit out of breath, mainly because she was laughing so hard she couldn't breathe properly.
He did have to reach out a few times to touch her face and feel the expression there a few times, gentle fingers sliding over her lips, cheeks and between her brows to figure out how the character looked at that moment. She'd pause to let him, then simply move on with the movie. Rye was definitely glad she didn't mind him touching her face like that. Most people thought it felt strange, or didn't like their personal bubble popped like that.
"There's one of those sappy end of movie kisses at this point," she informed him. Minnie leaned like she had done before with the kissing scenes, but this time changed direction last minute and kissed Rye quickly on the lips instead. A bit of revenge for laughing so much, and actually something she had the strange urge to do. Pulling back, she was grinning, though surprised she had done something like that. Not in a bad way, though. "And that's the end!!"
By the time she was explaining the last scene, he was just as out of breath as she was from laughing, so he put a hand on his chest to rub at the base of his throat as he leaned forward a bit to put his elbows on his knees, listening to her end of the movie description. The real kiss, however, caught him off guard! He leaned back again as she did, his hand moving from his slightly sore throat to his now tingling lips. If his eyes weren't covered, he'd be blinking rapidly at her in surprise. After a moment, his hand left his lips and reached to touch hers, but dropped just centimeters from them. He'd wanted to know if she was smiling or blushing or felt nervous about the kiss, but decided last minute to not find out. Instead, he smiled lightly and nodded, a pink tinge covering the apples of his cheeks, "Maybe it really was a comedy, then. I sure laughed hard enough for it to be one. But you're a good actress! Have you thought about going to Hollywood after graduating?" He grinned a bit and leaned back again, acting as if nothing had happened, despite his slight blush. He'd think about it later... for now he didn't want them feeling awkward together.
River had grown bored sitting in his room, or in the library. Both were just a choice of location for him to stew about things that were out of his control, both of which he was sick of looking at. After shoving his feet into his worn shoes River set off down the hall, wandering rather aimlessly with no real destination in mind. That was at least until he thought he heard a familiar voice from down the hall towards the rec room. Rye would be the welcome distraction River was looking for. As he stepped around the door, though, he pulled up short, witnessing the kiss Minnie planted on Rye’s lips. A smirk pulled across his face as he crossed his arms over his chest and cleared his throat softly. Oh this was going to be plenty of distraction… and fun, the image of that blush on Rye’s cheeks was never going to go away. “I’m not interrupting anything am I?”
Minnie hadn't really known where the kiss came from. It had just been an impulse. One she'd never had before around Rye, but she didn't think it was a bad thing. Even when he reached towards her as if to feel for an expression before dropping his hand away before they actually came in contact with her. He moved on with the conversation like nothing had happened, which was a good thing. The last thing she wanted was to spoil their fun evening because she had been unable to resist. They were both breathless from laughing, so she had to take a couple deep breaths before she spoke again. Which was when she heard the noise from the doorway. Turning, she noticed River there, blushing a little as she saw his smirk. He must've seen!!! "Hey River!! You're not interrupting. I'm just showing Rye a movie." Her voice was perky, as usual, as she was just as content as Rye not to have anything be awkward. Even with this new player added to the game.
Rye actually winced at the sound of someone else clearing their throat. He didn't turn his head, but let it droop a bit as his sight turned onto River instead of the breathless girl in front of him. Minnie spoke first, and he was definitely okay with that. He lifted his head finally when she was done, and nodded to River, "Yeah, she wanted to show me Push so she acted it all out for me. I was laughing so hard, I can hardly breathe now." He smiled a bit, trying to be casual as if River had seen nothing of importance... which was a little hard.
“Uh huh.” His smirk moved from Minnie to Rye as they both took their turns speaking. As far as he knew what they said was true. He found it rather amusing that they both skipped over the last important part that he had walked in on. It took all the strength he had not to come right out and draw attention to the kiss he walked in on, plus the teasing would be oh so much better if he let the unease hang in the air. Pushing off the door River trailed into the room, letting his arms cross over his chest drop away. "So was it a good movie?" His question was directed towards Rye, wanting to know more if Minnie's rendition of it was any good.
It would've been very awkward if River was someone more cruel. As it was, Minnie picked up on his disbelief rather easily. She just kept smiling, though, pleased when Rye glazed over the part about the kiss. Obviously he had seen it, but he wasn't bringing it up. She didn't know how she felt about what she'd done quite yet, and certainly didn't want to work through that with a witness present. At his question, she turned to Rye, waiting to see what his answer would be. Hopefully he had liked it. He had said something about her going to Hollywood. Though there was a large possibility that had been sarcasm. "Yes, was it a good movie, Rye?" She was careful that her tone wasn't sounding like a setup, since she wanted an honest answer. When River said nothing about it, Rye could still hear that smirk in the boy's voice, and it made him glower at River. He knew the boy would make fun of him for it! He'd just save it for later, let it rip when Rye least expected it! Ooooh, River was so in trouble. But he had to concentrate on the conversation not his own seething. Minnie's voice snapped him out of it, and he glanced towards her physically, "Yes, definitely. If I could see, I would have gone with you... to see the movie." Sure, and now everything he said would be taken by Riv the wrong way! He looked to River for his response to see if his frustration levels will rise with his words or not.
A smile formed on her face at his answer, and she was glad that Rye had liked her amateur rendition. She hadn't really expected to follow through with their teasing. But when it seemed clear that both of them thought it was an amusing option, she couldn't pass up the opportunity to actually follow through. Nodding so he'd know she had heard the answer and approved, she turned to River. Apparently there was something going on she didn't know about. Clearly River was teasing Rye, not outright, but Rye didn't look entirely pleased. And River looked too amused.
River walked over to lean his hip on the side of the couch behind Minnie, the smirk on his face never faltering. He knew Rye couldn't see it but was sure they other boy would pick it up in his tone. So hard ass Rye wasn't as hard ass as he let on....or some how Minnie managed to get past that. At least that was how it looked to a bystander, though it could be nothing at all. Whatever it was it was very good fodder for teasing later. And Rye knew River too well now to know he wasn't going to let this go. The glower Rye gave him now almost had River bursting with laughter, but he managed to bite it back as Minnie rounded on Rye waiting for his answer.
He did snort a soft laugh at the obvious stumble of words as Rye answered. Nice save dude, his brief answer popped into Rye's head as River turned his attention to Minnie. "Well you must have done a pretty good rendition of it if emo over here found it amusing." River hooked a thumb in Rye's direction, his voice carrying a teasing tone to his words.
"Well I did my best," she said with a laugh. Now she knew why Rye was grumpy sometimes. Boys were always picking at each other! "He's not emo either! Just needs more cookies than normal people." Minnie was attempting to defend Rye, hoping it was sufficient. Though she quickly blushed, eyes flicking to him as she realized how her words could be taken. Damn. Turning back to River, she attempted an oblivious smile. "Speaking of cookies, I brought plenty. And drinks and popcorn. Want some?"
Rye winced a bit again as River spoke in his head. Damn telepaths!! He turned another glower up to River, both for the thought in his head and being called emo, but he let Minnie attempt to smooth things out for them. He was glad the girl defended him, and he lowered his head again to its normal position, as if looking down at the couch near Minnie's feet. He didn't see her little slip up as anything horrendous, so he didn't react to it. For now he stayed silent, letting River take some of HIS cookies if he wanted. Of course River wouldn't see it as a peace offering or anything!
If it was at all possible River's smile grew, like a cat grinning at a mouse he backed into a corner. His attention was on Minnie as she spoke, though he couldn't resist flicking his eyes to Rye as the girl defended him. That was a reaction he wanted to see because River was sure Rye wasn't used to somebody standing up for him. Short of River and Minnie the boy probably didn't count many people at Zener as his friends. River could say the same about himself. He kept only a few people close, though even some of those people were failing him. River shook that thought away, because this was supposed to be some time for distraction. "You know....cookies do sound kind of nice. And from what Rye tells me....your cookies are pretty damn awesome." River sat on the arm of the couch, his elbow nudging Minnie a bit in an attempt to scoot her over to the middle seat, and right next to Rye. " Mind if I sit here?" Before she got a chance to say no he slid off the arm of the couch and essentially wedge himself in place, forcing her to move closer to Rye.
"That's what he constantly tells me. I'm just glad someone likes them!" Minnie laughed a little, knowing her other friends had never complained. Rye seemed to really enjoy them though, and that pleased her. She didn't miss the way Rye glared at River, and she had to wonder why. Maybe he was embarrassed? That certainly wouldn't be good. She liked to think the idea of being kissed by her wasn't a horrible embarrassment. At the nudge, she looked up, realizing she was taking up almost half the couch. "Of course! I'm sorry. How rude," she said, instantly scooting over at his request. Which was a good thing, because he slid off the couch and wedged into the seat. Minnie moved down the couch, not really noticing how close the new placement made her and Rye. Did that bother him? She wasn't sure, but hoped not.
Rye tilted his head as Minnie answered River, face still downwards, mumbling to anyone who would listen, "They're fantastic." He looked up again as River spoke before nudging Minnie over, and for some reason seeing him push her, even that gently, got under his skin. He snatched up the popcorn bowl before Minnie had to sit on it, then scooted himself up onto the arm of the couch behind him so Minnie had plenty of room to sit, "Mind your manners, Simmon! Honestly, you're worse than Nova sometimes." Which definitely was not true, even in Rye's usual opinions, "And what are you doing here, anyway?" He did sound perturbed, but he wasn't in the worst of moods, just yet.
River didn't really so much as shove Minnie, he wasn't a jerk after all. But he wanted to see how they would react when tossed in to another awkward situation. Minnie moved before he slid in to the seat, which was good because River would have felt horrible if he had slid on her and squished her. Though she didn't give much as far as reaction to the fact that she was now scooted close to Rye, pity. Another smile pulled across his lips as he watched Rye retreat to the arm of the couch instead of sit next to the girl that was rather obliviously shoved towards him. With an offended gasp River's hand came up to his chest. "Nobody is as bad as Nova...she makes a pitbull look friendly. Then again....she makes a pitbull look cute too." It was no secret that River didn't really like the girl in question....then again how many people at school really did. He dropped the mock offended act. "I got bored sitting in my room....."
It was good Rye had remembered the popcorn. Otherwise Minnie would be sitting in buttery kernels at that moment. As he scrambled to the back of the couch, she looked up at him, feeling a little bad he had decided to move. "Did I sit on you? I'm sorry! Have another cookie and move back down here. I promise to make myself tiny so everyone can fit," she said, smiling a bit. She was already small enough. His next words were surprising, considering she didn't think River had done anything rude, and certainly nothing as rude as Nova. Which only added to her confusion. Poor Minnie had no idea what was happening, but she just kept smiling. It was fun to have more company, and River's response made her laugh a little. "Now now, boys. Let's be nice." Yep, always too nice for her own good. Nova wasn't mean to Minnie, though. Not really anyway. "Nova's been behaving lately. Except for that comment about me wanting to be felt up..." she trailed off, realizing the situation would only make that sound worse. Focusing on the subject change, she nodded. "Sitting in your room gets old. Which is why we decided to act out popular movies about psychics instead."
Rye shook his head almost violently, "No! You didn't sit on me, don't worry about it." He shifted a bit there on the arm of the couch, unsure of if he should take up her invitation to sit next to her. Luckily, the conversation moved on and he looked up between River and Minnie a few times as they spoke. His jaw dropped a bit at Minnie's confession about Nova's statements, but he was too shocked to say anything before the girl changed the subject, "Yeah.. but wait, wait! Nova said what to you??" He leaned towards her, ankles crossing socked feet on the cushion beside her. If Nova said anything horrible to Minnie, that would be like kicking a lost puppy!!
River just shook his head and snorted, this wasn't how the topic of conversation was supposed to be turning but there was no changing it without making it rather obvious. He settled in his spot on the couch, because as much as Rye was glaring at him River probably wasn't going to go anywhere any time soon. Minnie had offered cookies! Of course he wasn't leaving. Another snort followed Minnie's confession about what Nova had said to her." You know I don't think there is anybody at this school that she hasn't been mean to. She thinks I am boring as all hell.." He trailed off with a shrug before he reached over and scooped up a cookie off the table. It was cute the way Rye was becoming defensive of Minnie, the fact that he got angry at River for nudging her over and now this.
There was no way for Minnie to insist Rye move back down without it being taken the wrong way. Which wasn't a bad way, just a confusing one. The topic turned to Nova, somehow, and she shrugged a little as Rye asked what exactly had been said. "We were talking about Valentine's Day and I said I liked it. And she said it was only because I wanted some guys to feel me up." It wasn't a big deal. Though she blushed a little as she explained. "Apparently nice girls are sex crazed maniacs in disguise." She'd seen the girl be far meaner to other people. A fact proven when River spoke up. "You're not boring! That's an unfair thing to say," she assured him. Before she could hand him a cookie as a means of cheering him up, he took one. Hopefully it met the great expectations Rye gave them.
The other boy snorted and shook his head, "She's full of shit, that's what she is. I hope she gets her ass kicked out of here with all these insults. Did you see what she wrote to that Kiku chick? Racial slurs, right there." He reached for his own cookie, glad that the conversation had moved off of him and Minnie. Slandering someone else was one of his specialties, and Nova was always in his line of fire, just for being a bitch to most everyone else. Even though she'd said nothing particularly bad to Rye himself, other than calling him a retard. Ironic, really, since he was a jerk to most people. Rye's full of contradictions, though.
He smiled at Minnie, it was sweet of her to say he wans't boring. The comments hadn't bothered him so there was no need to apologize for them."Don't worry about it Minnie." River took a bite of the cookie, and holy shit Rye wasn't lying! He swallowed, glancing at the cookie in his hand and to Minnie next to him on the couch. "What the hell do you put in these?!" He rather unceremoniously shoved the rest of the cookie in his mouth before somebody could take the wonderful thing away from him, instantly reaching for another one. River was more then willing to move the topic off of Nova because it would just get them all riled up. And there was still more teasing to be had. Swallowing the last bit of the cookie he shoved in his mouth he took his time savoring the next one.
"She's just....bold," Minnie said, brushing off any anger on her behalf. The girl certainly did have a colorful way of speaking, though language wasn't her only problem. "Some people just don't know how to handle others. It's sad, but I've found it's best not to let it get to you." Sure, she got her feelings hurt when people said mean things, but the blonde pistol hadn't really insulted Minnie that badly. The topic turned from other students to the cookies, and she grinned at River's reaction. "It's a super secret ingredient. No one's allowed to know. Especially not Rye. Because he wouldn't need me to bake anymore if he knew my secrets!" She laughed, watching River take another cookie with an amused shake of her head. "Where'd the popcorn go?"
Rye was okay with the subject moving off of the strange girl, and chewed on his cookie while River complimented her baking skills. He snickered and nodded, "Told ya so." Minnie spoke next, and Rye had to shake his cookie at her instead of pointing with that hand, "Like hell! You think I can bake? I'd make a mess that looked like world war three had taken place right there in the kitchen." He huffed a bit, then reached for the popcorn bowl and handed it to the girl, having to scoot towards her a bit to place it firmly in her lap rather than spilling any. He stopped himself from saying that he did need her, Riv would only take that the wrong way! He's wise to the other boy's ways.
River just munched on the cookie as he watched the interplay between Rye and Minnie, the conversation thankfully moving off the nasty girl and her comments towards everybody. "I'd sooner stick my hand in a garbage disposal then attempt to figure her out." Munch, munch, munch. He snorted a laugh when Minnie implied Rye would attempt to make the cookies himself. "He'd make me do the baking....the whole time yelling at me that I am doing it wrong. So you best just keep making those cookies for him yourself."
Minnie laughed at the interaction between the two, though she was pleased they both seemed to agree that the cookies were good. It made her feel good to know people liked them. "I didn't mean you'd cook them necessarily," she said with a laugh, shaking her head. "I just meant you'd give the secrets to someone who could and then I'd be left out." At the moment, she was oblivious to how the words could be taken, far too amused by her companions. The popcorn was now in her lap, and she looked up at Rye. "Thank you. Though you might do better to sit properly before you fall on me. I don't want to be squished before I watch you guys devour all these cookies." There. She could be sneaky and coy!
Rye chuckled a bit and nodded at Riv, "Yeah, you'd make them. I'm sure you'd find a way to poison them, too. But don't worry, Minnie, no one can bake like you. If I knew this ingredient I would tell no one, even under pressure of torture." He took the last bite of his cookie as Minnie admonished him for sitting on the arm of the couch, and he paused a bit in his chewing before moving as directed. He settled next to her and reached for his soda can. Finding it empty, he slid his fingers over the table to find the others, "Who wants a soda? And which one?" Of course he wasn't uncomfortable sitting next to her, it was just at the time River forced her over, it was more awkward than now.
River finished the cookie he was munching on and didn't instantly dive for another. He could be a bit of a pig but he wasn't about to wolf them all down; contrary to popular belief he did have some manners. That same smirk was back on his lips as he listened to Minnie scold Rye for perching on the arm of the couch like he did. He wanted too badly to drop another comment in Rye's head but resisted, figuring he could get away with it once without drawing attention or anger, "I would only poison the ones for you." River's tone was light and teasing because of course he wasn't going to do anything of the sort to his friend. "I'm good, I don't need anything."
"Oh I don't know about that. The Muffin M-er, Derek is really good. He can make way more things than just cupcakes and cookies." Minnie could make other stuff too, but not as much of a variety. She stuck to what she was best at. "And if you're being pressured or tortured, by all means spill! Then when you get away tell me who did it so I can fling objects at them," she said with another laugh. As he moved down, she felt better, not liking to think she was putting anyone out. Making them uncomfortable. "And neither of you are poisoning the other. Otherwise no more cookies for you," she added. Moving her hand like she was going to remove the plate from their reach. Smiling, she turned to Rye, nodding. "Sure I'll have another. My mouth is all dry." Pausing, she realized what she'd said, and cleared her throat. "After all the talking. The reenactment."
Rye snorted at Minnie wanting to throw heavy objects at someone who tortured him, "And let a girl protect me? Forget it. It should be the other way around." His hand lifted to slide over the tabs of the soda cans, searching for the right shape of tab that she had last time. He brought that one back to hand it to her, "Here, a soda for the actress." Even he found her slip up a little amusing! He reached for another soda and took a cookie as well before leaning back against the couch, "So tell me River, what's your plans for the rest of the day? Any tormenting of other people instead of me?"
River just settled in to his end of the cushion, listening to Rye and Minnie talk and adding his own commentary when it was necessary to poke at his friend. He respectfully had his attention on Minnie as she spoke of Derek, and her baking skills before jumping to torture. "Fling objects?" He couldn't hide the amusement in his voice as he shook his head. River jumped past the poisoning idea, because in all honesty he'd probably do it completely by accident when he just messed up the recipe. He would probably end up giving somebody food poisoning with his cooking. "You know Rye....Minnie's idea of protecting you.....doesn't sound so bad. Maybe you'd walk into fewer things." River had been good for the last few minutes and had to get a jab in there. "Oh...my plans? Hrm....was going to go do some more homework....but I think sitting here with you enjoying Minnie's cookies is much more fun then math homework any day."
Minnie laughed, shaking her head at Rye and River. Boys were so silly sometimes. "What's so bad about a girl protecting you? Despite my size I am not helpless," she pointed out, though there was laughter in her voice. The only reason she was not helpless was because she could throw objects bigger than herself at people with her mind. Otherwise, useless. "Yes, fling objects. You really think I could do damage otherwise?" Maybe she could step on people's feet, but that was about it. Taking the soda from him, she decided not to say anything more on her slip, instead thanking him before opening the drink. Her attention turned back to River as he spoke, and she shook her head at him in a chastising manner. "That's not very nice. I've never seen him walk into one thing!" Not that she was with him a lot, or that she really thought River was trying to be mean. Though he certainly redeemed himself with the cookie versus homework comment. "Math is evil, so I'm glad my cookies are better than math."
Rye rolled his eyes at the thought of Minnie protecting him, even though he knew her power much better than his in such circumstances. So he could see, whoopie! Riv's insult spurred him to action again, and he sat forward to pry the couch pillow out from behind him only to smack the boy in the back of the head with it, doing his best not to hit Minnie at the same time, "You're such an ass, River!" Just because the boy saw him walking into something at the mall and needed his help picking out the poster, doesn't give him rights to make fun of him for it!
"Yeah Rye?! What's so bad about a girl protecting you?" River jumped in on Minnie's side just because he knew it would rub Rye the wrong way. He wasn't trying to be cruel tonight and hoped his friend knew that. Though he could see how his actions and words might be taken that way. Note to self...tone it down a little. River smirked to Minnie as she came to Rye's defense again. "Oh it's much more funny when he trips people.....they turn around to get mad and see him and then get all flustered and take the blame and shuffle off." River was laughing softly as he slapped his knee, the visions of the time they went to the mall flooding back to him. Even though he was laughing and not paying full attention he did manage to get his arm up to block the cushion coming after him, his laughter growing now. "Yeah.....but that is why we get along so well."
The pillow barely missed her head as it swung towards River, and she had to duck her head a little to avoid being clobbered. Minnie certainly hoped Rye wasn't really insulted. That was kind of a low blow. Though it seemed the boys had a teasing kind of friendship. "Trips people?" It was a little after the fact, but threat of pillow-induced pain had distracted her. She raised an eyebrow at Rye questioningly, a smirk on her face. River was full on laughing now, and she shook her head. "Boys are so weird. And mean to each other!!" she observed, though Minnie knew full well girls could be worse. Way worse.
Rye grinned and settled the pillow into his lap as Minnie asked about tripping people. He lifted his knee up to settle a heel on the edge of the couch, hugging a knee to his chest a bit, "Yeah, when I go out into public, I take my walking cane with me, you know, a blind person's white and red stick? When we were at the mall, I swung it a bit too far to the side to trip people up. It's hilarious the way they react when they see I'm blind. Ask Riv, I'm good at the innocent look." He snickered and turned his head to watch the other two, "Riv and I have... a strange friendship. We make fun of each other more than we do anything else."
River easily batted away the pillow, successfully defending his head though now he was laughing hard enough that his side was starting to hurt. It was a nice feeling to forget his troubles and just have fun with some friends. Even if it was for a short while he felt like he didn't have a care in the world. "We are not weird... ok... maybe we are pretty weird." He gesture towards Rye and himself. River nodded confirming Rye's confession as to his playful actions at the mall. Rye didn't do it to hurt people, just to mess with them. "He almost made some guy wear his large soda." He snorted before he leaned forward and snagged another cookie off the table and started to munch on it. "What we have is a special kind of love." He made a deliberate show of winking over Minnie's head at Rye.
"That's actually pretty hilarious," she said as Rye explained how he tripped people. Minnie laughed, able to picture him giving a fake innocent look when people started to get mad. "I can believe the innocent look. Maybe you should've acted out the movie instead of me." She chuckled again, shaking her head a bit. It was a hilarious picture to imagine, and she couldn't stop smiling at the thought. "Next time you go to the mall I totally have to go." There was just no way she could not see that in person. The boys defended their relationship then, and Minnie rolled her eyes playfully. "Special love, hmm? Do I need to leave you two alone then?"
Rye lifted an eyebrow at the girl. He'd never thought she'd find that funny at all! She was too nice for that sort of thing, wasn't she? Just the fact that she found it hilarious, though, was definitely more points in her favor, "Nah, I'm not as good at acting as you are. And yeah, we'll go to the mall just so I can trip people while we walk around and you shop, Minnie." So now the making fun had even spread to the poor girl in their midst! Honestly, these boys were contagious sometimes. He snickered gently with a nod to her question, "Sure, you do that. I'll let you back into the room after I beat him silly. With my fists, that is!" He leaned back from the other two, knowing his words were probably taken the wrong way the first time!
"Told you... Rye playing innocent makes it all the more funny. I had a hard time keeping a straight face when the first person apologized and scurried off." He was shaking his head as he took another bite of the cookie he had, finishing it off quickly. Ok now he was getting thirsty....milk would be perfect to go with these cookies but he would settle for a soda. Leaning forward he snagged the last soda off the table and popped the top open before taking a big drink down. Rye's comment about Minnie's shopping had River snorting, so she was one of those girls? He understood it all too well, considering he was dating Clair......well. River shook his head focusing back on the teasing that now included Minnie. "You could make Rye carry all your shopping bags, just think of the looks people would give you for making the blind guy carry everything." Now THAT was an image that he needed to witness. River looked at Rye over Minnie's head again as she spoke, they had both missed the wink he had made so instead he made kissy noises towards the other boy. "Your fist? That's not what you said last night."
"Whoa whoa. I'll have you know that I am not one of those crazy shopaholics. And I don't appreciate the stereotype," she said, though it was clear by her tone and her smile that she was teasing. Minnie enjoyed going to the mall like any other girl, but she wasn't insane like some of her gender. She could go and hang out just as well as she could go and shop. "That's an excellent idea. See how many people will give me the dirty, 'you're a terrible person' look." Shaking her head in amusement, she laughed, seriously tempted by the idea. Rye spoke up then, claiming to beat River, after which the other boy made kissing noises in Rye's direction. "Wow. You guys have a lot of pent up love. Maybe I'll give you some private time," she remarked, raising an eyebrow though she was grinning. She started to stand, reaching for the cookies as she did so. "I'll just be taking these. You won't need them for your activities." If they wanted to tease she would tease right back. Playfully of course.
Rye snickered at the poor girl's defending herself. Not a shop-a-holic, huh? If she says so. He shook his head again, "Which would be hilarious, because there's no way you're a terrible person. We should do that this weekend. Sunday, maybe?" He tilted his head a bit as he heard the kissy noises from the other boy, and he opened his mouth to retort but Minnie spoke first. He paused for a beat, then waved both hands a bit at her, "Hey, no! Leave those! Chocolate's an aphrodesiac, you know!" Of course he'd rather Minnie stay in the room, simply because River and Rye aren't like that with each other. Hell, the other boy has a girlfriend!! But being able to tease Minnie like this was priceless. He usually laid off of her, not wanting to hurt her feelings. Now he knew she could take it, though!
Oh this was priceless! You couldn't pay for this kind of cheering up. River was laughing again after he made the kissy noises at Rye. There was no way the boy missed those this time, or Minnie missed them either. "Sure...pent up love." he sat forward as Minnie reached for the cookie plate, almost allowing a pout to slide to his face. "Don't take the cookies......." River couldn't finish what he was going to say because he was too busy snorting a laugh at Rye's comments about them instead.
Quirking an eyebrow, though Rye couldn't see the expression, Minnie smiled playfully. It would certainly be carried into her tone, and she looked back and forth between the boys. When she spoke, her voice was overly sweet, not sparing the suggestive undertones. "Of course I know that. Why do you think I make them for you all the time?" Settling herself back in her spot, she let the plate where it was, River's protest making her laugh a bit. He sounded so sad and pathetic! If she had actually been serious she would've changed her mind right then and there. Pulling her legs up under her, she looked at both boys, waiting patiently for a reaction to her retaliation. Teasing was fun.
It actually took a few moments for Rye to react, sitting in silence as he stared at the girl nervously. Had she really just said that?? Was it a tease or a flirt? It had to have been a tease.... His laughter started with a snort, which turned into a chuckle, and then all out laughter. He couldn't see her using such ulterior motives in her baking, and that's what made it so damn funny! He couldn't even talk, he was laughing so hard! Remind him to lift Minnie up to the top of his 'good' list thanks to that comment.
River was taking a drink of his soda when it became obvious that Minnie wasn't going to take off with their treats. He would be forced to go after her if she stole the cookies away. When Minnie spoke a snorted laugh came from him slightly gurgled by the mouthful of soda he had. Swallowing and gasping for breath River's laughter joined in with Rye's.
Well damn. Laughter was definitely the opposite of what she'd been going for. Though Rye had at least looked nervous for all of two seconds. Still, it was disappointing. Crossing her arms a little, she huffed, before reaching out a grabbing a cookie. Biting into it rather aggressively, Minnie's eyes flicked back and forth between the two boys. Their enjoyment was amusing to say the least, though definitely not what she'd been going for. "I don't know why people always laugh when I say that stuff. I can be sexy and enticing too you know!" Ok, maybe she wasn't as much as she wanted to be, but she wasn't sheltered or prude. She pouted a little, cutely, something that definitely was illustrated in her tone. Taking another bite, she chewed sullenly, though she wasn't truly upset. Not completely.
Her next words made Rye choke off his laughter, and he lifted a hand to cover his mouth until he was finally done. He waved that hand at her a bit as he took a deep breath with a grin, "No no, I'm not saying you couldn't be! It's just hilarious to hear you say such things. Minnie of all people. I mean, you're always so sweet and innocent like. Don't get me wrong, I like this side of you!" Just to make himself shut up, he reached for a cookie himself and stuffed most of it into his mouth. Honestly, he just shouldn't speak sometimes.
"Holy shit....no wonder everybody around here is so god damn frisky!? They are all eating Minnie's baking!" River laughed a bit more, finally getting it under control to he could take another drink of his soda. He smirked at Rye's comments though, biting his tongue so he didn't start laughing again. For somebody who wasn't interested in anybody in particular Rye was certainly being rather nice to Minnie. Then again...she fed him on a regular basis. So maybe that was the way to get past the angry shell of Rye....shove food in his face.
A little chuckle escaped her lips at Rye's words, and she gave up her attempts at pouting. River's comment made her laugh more, as Minnie couldn't deny the amusing nature of these two. She was still a little disappointed she hadn't managed to come off as sexy, even with Rye's assurances. "Just because I'm sweet and innocent doesn't mean I don't have a more playful side!" This was directed at Rye, though she didn't sound mad. She just sounded amused. Minnie had accepted her fate as the 'cute' one. Being called Elf by boys rather than being asked out. Yawning a bit despite the enjoyment, she covered her mouth as she attempted to hide the rather rude gesture. "You boys are crazy. It seems all this talk of my hormone-amping cookies has made me tired. I think I might need to crash." She hated to leave, since they were having fun, but there was no denying she was a bit sleepy.
Rye had to laugh at River's comments, and he shook his head as he leaned back against the couch again, "She'd make a fortune during Valentine's, if she had a bakery." He grinned at Minnie and her tone of voice, "I know, I know." He popped the rest of his cookie into his mouth and chewed as the girl yawned, then had to fight back his own yawn because of it. The blind boy nodded a bit, then pushed forward to start cleaning up, gathering empty cans and such to toss them out in the recycling bins, "Yeah, I guess you're right. It is kinda late, isn't it." Not that he knew what time it was.
River just shook his head and took the final drink from his can of soda. "If she makes a fortune she better give us some of the profits for the idea!" River stood to help Rye clean up, scooping up a few cans and moving to deposit them in to the garbage before he turned back to Minnie and Rye on the couch. "And we were just laughing....who said you were sweet and innocent? " His tone was playful and teasing, unable to resist poking at her now that she was part of it all.
"That's not a half bad idea. You guys could get some profits, provided you did all my advertising." Minnie smiled, getting to her feet and cleaning up what was left. Which was only a few kernels that hadn't made it in someone's mouth or something. She tossed the unpopped kernels into a trash can, looking to the one cookie that was left as she yawned again, fixing River with a playful smirk. "I believe Rye did," she answered matter-of-factly. She stretched a little, grabbing up the last cookie. "Who wants this?" Wiggling it, she looked between the two. "I can always throw it away...."
"Sure, I can do advertising. River would have to do all the printing and designing, I'll just come up with witty slogans." Rye grinned as he helped drop the cans into the garbage, then rolled up his sleeves a bit as he turned back to the girl who had kissed him, "Well what?? You are pretty sweet, you must admit that." The cookie wriggling, though, had his mouth hanging open, "Sacrilege!" He made a grab for the cookie, hoping to be just a moment quicker than River. Using his slight precognition in his favor, his hand snaked around to keep River's out of the way as he snatched it! Victory!
