Who: Ben and Luca When: December 18th Where: The Rec Room Rating: PG Summary: Hanging out Warnings: None
The Rec Room was noisy pretty much all the time, but Ben found that he quite welcomed it at that point. In the past couple of months he'd established a small workspace for himself in one corner, accompanied by a large beanbag and another cushion (for visitors, mostly), as well as his laptop and a number of readings he had to complete over the weekend. His math homework lay discarded underneath the cushion, crumpled and somewhat forlorn.
Today hadn't exactly been great; they had been given a pop quiz first thing in the morning, and Ben had later succeeded in spectacularly charring the bottom of a test tube over his bunsen burner during Science period. The rest of the day would have been all right - they had a rather slack drama class: a series of hysterical improv games - if not for his mother calling him the moment French ended to ask him for his shoe size, which had only served to remind Ben that unlike some of his other schoolmates, who would be spending their holidays doing what they liked, the lead-up to Christmas for the McCormick family would be involved in the usual pre-recital frenzy. It wasn't even a major recital, anyway; you would think that after Carnegie, they wouldn't make such a big fuss over some random showcase at Marylhurst. Ben didn't want to sound envious, but his parents had never found the time to attend any of his shows save on. There was no arguing with Joan McCormick, though, so he had dutifully told her his shoe size and requested that she pick out a tie that didn't blind innocent bystanders.
