Who: Sara and OTA What: people watching the tourists in ny! When: Saturday, December 20th, afternoon Where: Central Park
As much as she loved winter, there was one thing that Sara hated about winter in New York City - the tourists. She grew up in Brooklyn, and as a born and bred New Yorker, ignoring or loathing tourists was ingrained in her very being. Trying to make her way through the crowds of tourists, from the subway station to her favorite rock in Central Park, took about twenty minutes (a walk that normally takes about four minutes). Regardless, she always found herself in Manhattan on the weekends when she was home, and even when she was at school. As misanthropic and xenophobic as she was feeling at the moment, there just was nothing like Manhattan after a light dusting of snow.
Sara was bundled up in her pea coat, a scarf that she had bought for herself in London last summer, mittens, a hat that tied below the chin and had a pom pom at the top, and snow boots. Sure, there was only a few inches of snow, but you never knew how much snow you might get, and if she had to trudge home in the snow, Sara was going to be prepared.
Once she set herself at the perch of her rock, sitting down on a towel she had brought with her so that her pants didn't get too wet from the ice and snow she assumed would be there, Sara turned on her mp3 player and began one of her favorite activities - people watching. Now, this may sound hypocritical, as she detested tourists, but she really only hated people when she had to deal with them and push her way through them in order to get to her destination. Once she was in her own little bubble, having conversations with herself and listening to music, Sara actually enjoyed watching the interactions of other people, just as long as she wasn't the one doing the interactions. However, she really wasn't expecting a classmate to find her up in her secret place in Central Park.
