That said, he has definitely grown on me. First time through, I pretty much reacted to him on face level -- "you sick son of a bitch!" -- but the genius of his storyline is that (1) he is also ultimately good for Iwaki, and (2) he's got the makings of a psycho, but his no-limits dedication to his vision is in itself a attractive trait.
I wonder if any aspect of his character was inspired by John Woo? (And who the Japanese equivalents of John Woo are. The reading list, it burgeons.)
