The Accidental Spy (traditional Chinese: 特務迷城) is a 2001 Hong Kong martial arts-action film, starring Jackie Chan and directed by Teddy Chan. Although it is a Hong Kong film, much of the dialogue is in English language, particularly during communications between the Chinese characters and the Korean and Turkish characters. Despite having a fairly serious and--in some parts--a dark plot, it still features some humour, as is typical of Chan's movies.
Awards and nominations 2002 Hong Kong Film Awards Won: Best Action Choreography (Tung Wei) Won: Best Film Editing (Kwong Chi-Leung) Nomination: Best Sound Design (Kinson Tsang) Nomination: Best Visual Effects US/UK DVD release The Miramax/Dimension DVD releases in both the US and UK contain a heavily edited version of the film. Despite a lot of the film being originally shot in English, it was redubbed with a new English track. Although the video quality of the movie was digitally restored, many scenes were deleted (20+ minutes of the original film was cut), a new flash opening sequence was added (showcasing most of the stunts and action during the film), a new musical score, some characters names and personalities drastically altered for the US market and even the outtake montage during the credits was dubbed into English. In addition, the DVD cover has little relevance to the movie featuring characters that were not in the film.
