Todd sat at his desk that was nestled into the corner of his bedroom. He stared down at a sketchpad that had been sitting there since the end of October. Every once in a while during its stay he would flip through the few pages that had been filled with his sister's artwork, but mostly it stayed on the desk collecting dust. He had really wanted to return it to her, but he was afraid. She had rejected his attempts to convince her she was his sister. Not that he could blame her, but it still hurt.
So he held off on sending the sketchpad. He wanted to use it as a way to reestablish communication with her and sending it too early would probably have back fired on him. He grabbed for a piece of line paper in the desk's adjoining drawer and laid it one top of the sketchpad. He needed to write a note to send with this. No point sending it without one.
He tapped his pencil against the desk, trying to find the right words to write. It was a lot harder than he thought it would be. He had only just been mulling over what to say for days. Finally, he managed to find a decent set of sentences to set into physical form and proceeded to write.
Jennie-Lynn,
Here is your sketchpad you left at the museum the day we talked. I'm sorry I wasn't able to send it sooner. I hope you aren't angry with me. I didn't mean to startle you, but it was inevitable all things considered, wasn't it? But I am telling the truth. If you need proof, the records at the Memorial Hospital will show you.
Have a good Thanksgiving and God bless, Todd (madmachine@gmail.com)
With that he placed the paper into the very front of the sketchpad. He would send it out tomorrow and it should get to her by Wednesday, the US Mail willing. And, if he was lucky, maybe he'd even get a response.
