Help, I have done it again... ([info]undiscoverme) wrote in [info]yaoi_challenge,

Challenge Time!
So our very first community challenge idea will now be put forth for feedback.

I. Word Count: You'll have two options -
May deadline - Writers: at least 1,000 to 5,000 words; Artists: single art works
August deadline - at least 10,000 to 40,000 words (Big-Bang Style); Artists: multi-part art works (doujin, anyone?)

II. Choose Your Own Adventure Challenge Round. You sign up for a day in May or August, with your choice of fandom and pairing, and produce fic or art for that day's genre with your chosen characters. Genres: Romance, Angst, Action/Adventure, AU, Kink, Cliché. A list of prompts will be provided, but they will be optional, in case you need a little direction to get you going.

III. Artists and Writers are welcome to partner up and collaborate on an epic work of love.

IV. I'll ask each participant to list their top three choices of posting dates in May and/or August. You may repeat someone else's pairing choice, but please don't double up on days until the entire month is taken -- ideally what we want here is two solid months where there's something new to look forward to in the community every day. For the veterans, think back to our very first comm. challenge.

Huge thanks go out to the lovely [info]laylah who helped me brainstorm and get these rambling thoughts of mine down on paper.

Thoughts? Concerns?

ETA: Oh and if there are any fanmixers out there who'd like to get in on the action and provide our writers/artists with some more inspiration or just cheer them on, I'll be opening up a sign-up post once the challenge is under way. Details TBA.

Curious question: Will the prompts be person-specific? i.e., will we be writing for someone in particular, or just to fill the day we signed up with?

Also, this isn't said explicitely, but am I right that we sign up for a fandom and pairing, and it's only the prompt itself that's optional?

It sounds great! I'm totally signing up for August ^^;;;;

Just filling the day you signed up for.

Exactly. And I'm opening it up to any and all fandoms and pairings/threesomes/moresomes (live-action included). This round is a free-for-all.

Yay! I can't wait.

*nudges* You know you want to. *holds your hand* I'll even stand by you when you're pulling your hair and calling me all sorts of terrible names. *G*

*hangs head* I do know I want to - that's the problem.

Now I just have to decide between the May deadline and the August *shoots self*

I guess I'll start. I don't know...

1. What if? Character is given a glimpse into what could have been had he made different different choices.

2. "You and I had to be the standing joke of the year
You were a runaround, a lost and found
And not for me, I feel"

3. Breaking up and Making Up - "Is it too late to remind you how we were?
But not our last days of silent, screaming blur"

4. past romantic exploits and how they are affecting the current one.

5. "And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make."

PS-- I'll probably post with my fandom journal, ninetails, instead of my main one. Sorry for any confusion!

*home from work and realizing I have a question*

So will each day in the month have a specific genre attached to it? (romance, drama, etc etc)

(And will you be putting up a separate post for prompts or shall we put them here?)

The dates and genres should go up today. You can add your prompts to this post, but there's actually been a change in the plan. We'll be setting up a couple of brainstorming parties where everyone will be welcome to throw ideas out there; submit prompts, discuss, laugh, offer encouragement, etc. etc.

I feel like I'm not entirely certain what you're looking for on the prompt front (how general is too general? how specific is too specific? single words? scenarios? lack of direction makes me wibble!), but here are a few if they'll do you any good --

1) first time in bondage

2) I don't want to change your mind / I don't want to think about your mind

3) prison break

4) It's too late to turn back now.

You know what, Laylah? *G* The more and more I think about it the more I realize that prompts may not work for this challenge at all. Maybe we could put together some sort of brainstorming party and/or a meme-style what's your fantasy? post to help with inspiration. What say you?
