The expression on Jono's face shifted from amusement to incredulity and he raised one eyebrow. Was this guy really going to stand there and pretend there wasn't a kitten writhing around beneath the fabric of his shirt? And did he really think it wasn't obvious? He didn't answer the question (he'd spent enough time telling boldfaced lies to his parents that he wasn't surprised by the attempt to turn the conversation in some other direction) and just continued to look at Julian. After several moments, he folded his arms and gave in to the urge to grin again, almost laughing outright, "Are you kidding? You should know, mate, that you're exceptionally bad at this. I mean, really awful." Admittedly, he didn't know what else the other boy could've done at this point to save his scheme, but there was something to be said for knowing when you're caught. "At this rate, they'll be on to you and Whiskers there by the end of the day."
