Kate Pryde ([info]kageneko) wrote in [info]xmo_sandbox,
Being home was strange. It had brought back all kinds of emotions that Kate had anticipated but hadn't really prepared for as much as she thought she had. She knew she was ready - she was probably way beyond ready, if she was being perfectly honest with herself - but when she stepped out of the cab and headed in through the front gates, it sure hadn't felt like it. Professor Xavier had, as usual, been completely warm and welcoming, and Kate was more than a little bit surprised to find that they'd kept her room waiting for her.

It had been two years, and given how much student and instructor turnover there was, she'd expected to come back to a fresh dorm assignment and instructions on how to find her boxes in one of the storage areas. Instead, the room looked almost exactly the way it had when she left. It was eerie. Charles had been kind enough to let her settle in a little bit before fully discussing the offer he'd made, and as soon as she dumped her bags on her bed, the first stop was the shower. Flights always made her feel gross, and the Japan to New York trip had been very long and full of sweaty tourists. She showered and pulled on a fresh set of clothes, pulling her damp hair back into a ponytail. The next step, as much as she wanted it to be "take a nap," was to head back out and find people.

The very first name on the list of people to find and talk to and apologize to seemed to have caught wind of her arrival before she even had a chance to track her down, and Kate smiled at the familiar voice, steeling herself ever so slightly before stepping back out into the room.

"Yana," she greeted, very barely managing to keep the tears that threatened to well up in her eyes at bay. She owed Yana an apology. She owed her several apologies, actually, but it was probably best to start simple. "I just got in. I was going to come find you."
