Pete saw them coming up on the other end of the water and straightened up to his full height again from his leaning position on the railing. He smelled grass, as if someone had just mowed a lawn in close proximity, the first scent over the smell of the water.
"So, doughnuts first, then?" He called lightly, watching her as he tugged his car keys from his pocket, hooking the loop around his finger. "We might have to wander a little. I only know the general area of where the Krispy Kreme is." Usually if he was going for coffee, he went to Tim Hortons, if only because he often found himself indulging in the adjoined Cold Stone Creamery. Pete was particularly naughty when it came to going out of his way for ice cream.
