Coming back to the mansion after a weekend in the City always made him smile. He had part of his life in NYC, his sister, his family, his bars,... But the mansion was like his second home; and he liked to think he had family there too. Once he left the car in the garage Devyn headed toward the main entrance with his dog, Indiana, running around him and barking happily.
Liberty had been dropped off by a cab... with one big bag and one little bag. Everything she owned. It really wasn't a surprise. After being kicked out of her house, and leaving the only other home she'd ever known, she didn't have much. So she made due with what she did have. Making her way to the gate, she saw someone in the front and hit the wrought iron bars, biting her lip in hopes that whoever it was would come and open it for her.
It if wasn't for Indiana, Liberty would've stayed out for a long while because Devyn was almost inside the mansion when he called for her, and seeing she didn't come -- which wasn't that unusual -- he turned around to get her. And that's when he saw the girl. Being the gentleman that he was, he walked up to her and opened the gate. "Need help with that?" He asked with a smile, nodding to the bigger bag.
Liberty smiled and nodded. "In a major way. I'm exhausted and this bag is getting heavy," she answered. "Thanks, so much. I owe you. Is this one yours?" She bent down to scratch the dog behind the ears, grinning at it. "You're a gorgeous little dog, aren't you?"
"Don't mention it." He said to the girl, picking up the bag. "Unfortunately, yeah." he joked. "Her name's Indiana, and she likes to pretend she doesn't hear me when I give her an order." He chuckled, taking a moment to look at the girl. And he suddenly wondered why he hadn't before. The girl was gorgeous.
Scratching Indiana behind the ears, she chuckled. "Well, of course you don't listen, do you girl? You're female. You don't like orders anymore than any other girl, do you?"
"But she's a dog, she should listen to the leader of the pack, at least that's the crap the dude that whispers to dogs says."
"Keyword there, 'dude'," Liberty snorted. "Right girl?" She smirked as she straightened up and ran a hand through her hair, looking around. Holding her hand out one it had made its trek through the strands, she nodded in greeting. "Liberty Daae. Nice to meet you."
Devyn shifted her bag to his other hand and shook hers. "Devyn Ward. Nice to meet you, Liberty." He said as he gave her one of those charming smiles --whether it was a habit or he meant it, only he knew.
"So uh... is the Professor here? I'm pretty sure I was supposed to talk to him about my set up. Where I'm staying, what classes I want to take, that sort of thing. Are you a teacher here?" She certainly hoped not... because that would mean it would be harder to snare him.
"Er... I guess he is. I just got here from the City so I don't know where's everyone right now. But if the Professor isn't around, I'm sure there's someone who can help you with all that." And then he laughed. "God no. I'm thankfully not a teacher... I just live here most of the time."
Liberty grinned, nodding slowly. "Good. Then with no students to worry about, maybe you could show me around this place? I'd hate to get lost."
"It'll be my pleasure....Ladies first." He smiled, gesturing her to start walking toward the mansion. "You too, Indiana."
"Come on girl, walk with me," she called to the dog, chuckling softly. Hitching her smaller bag up onto her shoulder, she stepped into the mansion and immediately became awed.
Devyn glanced back at his dog and rolled his eyes, shaking his head chuckling. "Well, I guess I know who to go to if I want her to sit down or lay." He watched her face when they walked into the mansion and smiled. "Big, uh?"
"Its... freaking huge," she replied, shaking her head. "I mean, my parents' house was big but this... this is... whoa..." She sniffed a little, eyes still big as saucers as she looked around. "Is there a place to put my bags for now?"
"Yeah... You can easily get lost here." He chuckled. "Hmm, I guess you could leave them in my room. I don't know if it'd be safe to leave the bag around here. Some people are too nosy."
"You sure? I wouldn't want to bother anybody just yet. Except Professor Xavier. Because I ain't sleepin' on the porch tonight."
"Yeah, don't worry." He smiled. "No one is gonna let you sleep on the porch."
"Good to know. Lead the way to your room then, Mr. Ward."
Devyn shifted her bag on his shoulder and with a nod, headed outside the mansion, where the residents' dormitory was. On the way there, he couldn't help but shot glances at her, checking her out.
Blinking, she canted her head as she was led back out. "I thought we were going to your room."
"And we are. Residents live by the pool house. The mansion isn't big enough for the staff, the students and us." He explained.
"Ooohhh... okay. I see. You aren't going to try and take advantage of me, right? I can kill you by just looking at you."
"Hey, I'm a gentleman. I'd never take advantage of you... unless you wanted me to." He said with a smirk. "And that's your power, looks that kill?"
"No," she replied with a roll of her eyes. She wasn't sure whether to take that as a legitimate question or a line. "I control blood."
He looked curiously at her. "You control blood? That's something I never heard before... How does it work?"
"I just kind of have to, think about what I want it to do usually. And then it does it."
"Oooh, cool," He said with a grin.
"What do you do?" she asked, curiously, watching him as they walked. He certainly was good looking. She'd noticed it earlier.
Devyn didn't say anything. Instead, he turned to her and grinned, and slowly began to disappear, mixing with the background and becoming invisible. Only his clothes gave away his possition. "I'm like a super awesome chameleon."
Blinking, Liberty couldn't help but smirk at his explanation. A super awesome chameleon huh? "But apparently it only works if you're naked? What a waste."
"Hey, chamelons don't wear clothes, do they?"
"No... no they do not," she conceded,, chuckling.
"Then I'm still a super awesome chameleon." He said, his face becoming visible again; only this time his hair was bright green and his face was stripped purple and white. "Cool, uh?"
"That is so weird," she laughed, shaking her head, hazel eyes wide.
"And it can get weirder." He laughed, changing his skin texture to look like it was made of wood.
Reaching out, she ran her fingers over his cheek, expecting it to feel like wood.
His skin felt rougher and not so smooth, but it was still skin. "And look." He reached his his hand and took hers in his. In a matter of seconds, her hair was blonde and her skin very tanned.
"Eww," sheshuddered. "Change me back!"
He laughed and let go off her hand, making her hair and skin change back to normal.
She gave another shudder, reaching out to check and make sure her hair was red again. Breathing out a sigh of relief when it was, she shook her head in disgust. "Dude, don't do that again. I like my red hair."
He laughed a little again and nodded. "Alright. Promise."
"Thank you." Running a hand through her hair, she shook it and ran hand over her skin. "So... you live out here huh? Which means I probably wouldn't see you much."
"Yeah, but I spend most of the day in the mansion. The gym and the kitchen is where you can usually find me... If I'm not in the City."
"What's in the city?"
"My house, my sister and my bars."
"Bars?" she asked, grinning slowly.
"Yep. One in Queens and another one in Manhattan." He said proudly.
Liberty nodded slowly, biting her lip in thought. She was underage, but she did have a fake ID. Maybe she should check these places out.
"How old are you, by the way? If you don't mind me asking. You don't look like the typical student." She surely looked older.
"Me? I'm seventeen," she replied with a shrug. It wasn't like he'd probably be at the bar when she went. And if he was, she'd make sure to stay out of his way.
"Seventeen? Seriously?..wow." Well that was just great. She could easily be one of his sister's friends. Why coudn't she have like two more years?
"Yeah. I mean, in other places it'd probably be this big thing, but here... here I'm legal. So I like it here," she chuckled.
"But you still can't drink... which sucks 'cause I can't take you to my bar now."
"You were going to take me to your bar?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.
"If you were legal, why not?" He said with a smile.
"So this would have been a friendly gesture huh? Tell me about the bars. Do you just serve alcohol there?"
"Hmm, no. But alcohol is what we serve the most... I guess I will be able to take you the bar in the end." He said with a smile. There was othing wrong with taking her to the bar, right? As long as she drank juic eor coke ther ewas nothing wrong with it.... Yeah. It was totally okay.
"If I don't drink, I could do other things," she chuckled. "Got a pool table in the place?"
"Of course we do. What kind of bar wouldit be without at least one pool table?" He chuckled.
"Then I'll play pool." And she'd have a place to hustle for a bit.
"I'll kick your ass at it, then."
"You wish," she replied, straight away. This was a nice feeling. Someone to banter back and forth with. Someone who could keep up. She didn't feel so... different.
He laughed. "We'll see, Red." He said with a wink.
