As much as Yindi wanted a friend--her best friend--to come down and make her laugh or to talk about silly things, she really did not want Remy to see her in the state she had previously been in. Who knew what might just grow out of her hands or feet or even her head if she had been so excited to see him when she was all out of sorts. Tomorrow, she had thought, I could ask someone if Remy can come down. But then she had gotten bored and lonely down there tonight...
He startled her; she had been so intent on being quiet that she had never heard or felt him come in. Remy was, of course, much sneakier than Yindi. She jumped a little as she was crouched down on the floor, one hand under her bed, and then her body twisted and fell back against it. "Remy--" she started and took a deep breath. Her heart had jumped, too, and for a moment she looked down at herself to see if anything was going to happen. For now, everything seemed normal.
Despite how pale she still was, her half-smile was something familiar and normal, which showed when he said he did not miss her. "Told yeu I'd yeu with me when I go back." She pushed herself from the floor and the CDs were put in a stack on the nightstand under the soft light. Yindi stood across from Remy for a moment before that smile was melting away with an apologetic expression. She covered the short distance between then and without another word, slid her arms beneath his bulky jacket to find his slim waist and pulled herself against him.
Remy felt, sounded, looked and yes, even smelled like he always did. It was small comforts like that which make things a little easier to deal with, like having to go back downstairs eventually and go through more tests. As long as her friend was still around and would wait for her to come back up, Yindi could deal with it. "I didun't miss yeu, eithar." Her cheek remained pressed against his chest for another moment before she started into it.
"I've mutated again."
