Galen had seen Wanda wandering about and figured now was as good a time as any to talk to her. He quickly grabbed the gift from his room and approached, trying not to let her see it.
Hers and Pietro's birthday had come and gone as quickly as it came. Part of her felt relief that it was over and done with and other part (albeit a very small one) mourned its passing. They were one whole year older and with it came the notion of wisdom. Had they, indeed, gotten wiser this past year? Hmm. Wanda wasn't entirely sure of the answer, but there was a little voice in her saying 'no,' that they hadn't. No. They had just gotten older, a step closer to death and with very little prove towards their own personal goals.
As the sun's light glared down from its lofty perch in the sky, Wanda had come to settle down beneath a tree - by herself. Pietro had once again turned inwards and after their less-than-cordial meeting with their father the previous evening, well, she wasn't at all surprised that he had. Sighing, Wanda leaned back against the tree's trunk and took to watching the nature (or what was left of it) around her, but something soon caught her eye: Thorn.... and it appeared like he was trying to keep something hidden from her. She quirked a brow as he approached her for a moment, but it soon lowered and she put on a wamer expression. She'd let him have his moment.
"Good afternoon, Galen," she greeted him with a small, simpering smile. "Fancy seeing you out here." Not really, as she knew perfectly well he spent a great deal of time out in the grounds.
Even though this was what she had been expecting all along, Wanda's face still lit up as he passed the uniquely wrapped gift to her. She took it carefully into her hands and she glanced up at him again. "You really did not need to get me anything," she said unnecessarily, while she slowly unraveled the contents. Unlike when she had opened Pietro's gift, she actually took her time.
"I wanted to." He replied immediately. Then he added. "It's really nothing much." He hadn't braved cities or such for it. He waited for it to be unwrapped completely and opened before he continued. "I grew and made it myself. There's a few kinds in there. I have them labeled. I hope you like the flavors." Tea wasn't all that hard for him to create for her. It had been one of the things he had grown before ever joining the brotherhood. "I would have given it to you yesterday but I thought you might want to spend that time with your brother." Like he and his brother USED to do for their birthday. Something that hadn't happened this year.
Homemade? Those were the best kinds of gifts in Wanda's opinion. Once the package had been opened enough, she smelled what was inside before she got a look at it. Galen had grown her tea plants. "This is wonderful," she said, pulling the potted plants out completely and setting them on the grass next to her. "I will be able to make use of these. Thank you," Wanda added with another smile. "You're very thoughtful."
Galen flushed and then smiled. "I'm glad you like them." Underneath the plants was a plastic baggie with small patches of made tea bags. "I remember you liked tea." He glanced back to the plants. "I suppose I should check in on the kiddies." His plants. While he could help them grow, he still needed to watch for bugs and other infestations that might cause problems.
Hmm. "Yes, I suppose you should," Wanda said and then she fell silent for a moment, thinking. It was now or never. Wanda got back up onto her own two feet again, but slowly; and then without warning, she leaned up slightly and pressed her lips against his cheek as another warm thank you for his efforts.
He had been about to leave when she stood up. He paused and she kissed him. On the cheek, sure, but still. He smiled again, touching where she had kissed him with his fingers. "Happy Birthday Wanda." Though he felt he had gotten the real present here. Then he let his hand drop. "Until later." And there would be a later.
He finally headed off to his duties, feeling happy and carefree for at least a little while.
