Diana looked over the room she had been escorted to. After spending a few days in the infirmary, she was declared healthy enough to move into a real room. She certainly wasn't going to go back on the streets if she had another option. The room itself was nice, she supposed. Though it was a bit strange to think about sharing a bedroom with someone else. She had been an only child. At least it was mostly clean. The half that was apparently going to be hers was empty and she thumped her bag down. Dr Grey was going to introduce her to her roommate but she had been called away. So Diana started to unpack her meager possessions.
Jubilee had been wandering about the mansion when Diana had been shown their room. If she had know Diana was coming up then, she would've been there to greet the girl. Making her way back to her room, she was surprised to someone else in the room. Jubilee had been an only child herself, so this might take a little getting used to. At the same time, she was excited to have a roommate. Smiling to herself, Jubilee walked in. "Hey, you must be Diana?" She'd been notified about getting a roommate, she just hadn't realized it would be so soon.
Diana whirled around, hands grasping tightly on her bag. "Yeah." She looked over at her new 'roomie'. "You must be Jubilation Lee." She looked uncomfortable. "So, er... how long have you been here? At the school and all."
Jubilee nodded, still smiling. "That's me. But everyone calls me Jubilee " She plopped down onto her bed, looking over Diana. "I've been here for about three years now." Time had certainly flown by. "So, anything I can help you with? You have questions, anything like that? I'll answer them best I can."
She thumped down heavily on the bed. "So," It had been so long since she had chatted with anyone, and she wasn't very social before she had been kicked out. "Everyone here... they are really ALL ... " then she whispered. "mutants?" She found it hard to believe that this cool place was all for people like her.
Jubilee grinned brightly. A newbie, cool! "Yes, we're all mutants," she nodded. "Professor Xavier created this place as a haven for us. We can safely train with our powers and not be afraid to be ourselves here," Jubilee added. "If you don't mind me asking, what can you do? Powers wise, I mean." She was more than willing to explain to Diana what her powers were like.
Diana relaxed a bit. It sounded nice. Then she scowled. While her powers had been useful, she wished they worked ALL the time. "I can teleport." she replied sullenly. "but only at night." She stood up and started putting her few things away again. "And my hair and eyes go all silvery and I get these little silvery claws. Nothing really cool. What can you do?" She bet Jubilee's powers were much better than her own.
"Oh whoa," Jubilee admitted. That sounds pretty cool. Though, it must've been annoying that they only worked at night. "Me? I can create fireworks, so to speak. I can make them take different shapes and control them with my mind," she explained. "If I try hard enough I can blind people with them and cause huge explosions, but I have yet to find a situation to do so."
Diana rolled up her now empty bag and put it in the dresser. She sighed and turned around. "Your powers sound really cool." She said. "How long did it take to be able to do all of that?"
"They're okay," Jubilee shrugged, not really thinking they were anything special. "Well, they manifested when I was about fifteen, in a mall. It was kind of unexpected," she admitted, frowning slightly at the memory. "Thanks to the training I got here, I managed to control them. It took about a couple of years to be able to cause the big explosions and blinding light."
She sat back down on her bed and looked over at Jubilee. Her own powers had been a bit of a surprise as was her mother's reaction to them. As far as Diana was concerned, she knew pretty much everything there was to know about her own powers. There weren't much to them. "So, I guess your parents are cool with the powers thing then?"
Jubilee knew that was question would come up. She supposed it was better to let her know now than later. "I'd hope they would be if they were still alive," she admitted. "They died when I was younger. I ran away, lived in a mall for a while. I was found and brought here. This has been my home ever since."
Goodness, that hadn't been expected. Diana felt awful. "I'm sorry." Was there really anything else she could say? Other than it could be worse? Your own mother could try and kill you with a shotgun? It was still too raw in her heart to talk about. "I guess I'm going to be here for a while too. I don't have anywhere else to go."
"Thanks," Jubilee smiled lightly. "I've come to terms with what happened," she admitted. "Well, this is a great place to be at," she beamed. "Have you seen much of the mansion? I could show you around, if you'd like."
Jubilee's bright attitude was certainly infectious. "Sounds like a plan. Though I think we can skip the medlab. I've seen enough of that place already."
"You okay?" Jubilee asked, concerned. She hadn't known Diana had been in the medlab. Maybe it was just a routine checkup. No medlab, check.
Diana shrugged. "Was in the wrong place at the wrong time, just a bit shy of night. Met some ugly people. Some British guy, Dr Grey said it was Brian Braddock, , came by and helped me out. Brought me here. I got patched up, and gonna stay. Not much to it really." She said, trying to downplay the issue. Though it had been a scary and dangerous situation.
Jubilee nodded, knowing what that was like. "Glad to hear that," she admitted. Deciding to not press the issue any further, Jubilee stood. "Any particular part of the mansion you'd like to see first?" What? She loved showing people around.
"I thought I smelled chlorine while I was escorted up here? Is there a pool somewhere?" She was hoping so. She just had to know, and hopefully they would have a diving board.
"You definitely did," Jubilee nodded. "We have a pool. There's one outside," she explained. "It comes equipped with a diving board."
Her eyes lightened up at that and she grinned happily. That had just made her day. It had been ages since she could have regular access to a pool. "This place ROCKS." And her roommate seemed pretty cool too. Maybe having a roommate wouldn't be so bad.
