Who: Jean Grey & Diana Geist (Joint Post - LONG) Dr. Jean Grey had been monitoring the young woman since the moment she arrived; she had passed out en route to the mansion; so Jean was unable to get some of the medical information she needed. She had done all she could do for the mysterious young girl with the little information that she did know, and she cleaned her bandaged her up wounds. Of course, the treatment didn't end there, she had also hooked her up to various machines to keep a close watch over her vitals. She didn't suspect she was suffering from anything life-threatening, of course; but it didn't hurt to add on the precautions, just in case there was an underlying problem she was not privy to at the moment. Diana's eyes shot towards the person she heard in the doorway. Some really pretty red headed woman. She knew her own hair had gone silver and probably her eyes too, and felt antsy at the lack of connection she felt to the world around her. At this time, she was usually somewhere moonlit, not in a windowless room. "Where is that big British guy?" she asked. She was surprised at how good she felt after getting beaten up like that. "And my stuff... where is my stuff?" That was a very important question as well. "Mr. Braddock?" Jean said, as she went about checking a few of the monitors; stopping occasionally to scribble something down on the notepad she was toting around. "I suspect he is upstairs... along with your belongings," Jean told her with another smile. She was very happy to know that the girl remembered something. That was a very good sign. "My name is Dr. Jean Grey, by the way," she introduced herself, extending her free hand toward Diana. "I don't know. Do you have a lot of big British guys hanging around here? He said he was a doctor." She couldn't remember him giving a name. She was very much less than happy that her stuff was so far away, but it probably was someplace she could port to. If only this was a place she could port from, then she would feel more relaxed about the situation. She was about to take the hand but shied back when she noticed that the small silvery claws were out. "Nice to meet you Dr Grey." She didn't want to give her full name out and was uncertain about giving any of her true name out. She didn't want them to track down her mother. "You can call me D if you want." "No, not too many of them running around here," she replied, smiling somewhat still. Jean didn't need to be a psychic to realize that the girl was scared and nervous. She would be too if she woke up in a strange place she had never been before. When she shied away from her hand, she retracted her own and let it fall to her side. "Well, D... If you're feeling up to it, we could start your physical examination now," suggested Jean, very gently. She didn't want to risk scaring the poor girl even more. Jean was going to allow her to call the shots, which she hoped would make her feel a little more comfortable being there. Diana frowned. "Physical exam?" She looked at the bandages. "I thought you guys did that when I was out." She might have been more nervous if the doctor had been a guy but hoped this lady could be trusted. "Nothing really hurts too bad." She was a bit hungry but that was a normal state of affairs. "I ascertained as much as information about your physical state that I could while you were unconscious," Jean said, as she pulled a stool up to the bed and took a seat, resting the clipboard on her lap for a moment. "I took some blood, which is now in the lab being tested; I expect we'll have the results in before long." Jean had chosen not to do a few things to Diana, since she much preferred it when her patients were awake, so she could ask questions. "I'm fairly certain you're just fine, just a little scrapped up," she said, adjusting her eyeglasses slightly with the tip of her right index finger. "I'm more or less doing this, so we can have your medical records on file, should you choose to stay here with us." Diana's mind was as completely open as most anyone without any mental training. She wasn't sure about this place, but she couldn't get out just yet. She really hoped things wouldn't go bad on her. She had enough of that in her life. So, she decided to be cooperative and play along until she could get a better handle on what was going on. She shrugged. "I'm not allergic to anything." she offered. "And I once got some stitches in my legs when I broke a glass table." Which was about the only times she remembered being at the doctor for anything more than a quickie sports physical. "Other than that I've been healthy as a horse all my life." Well... healthy as a horse not getting enough to eat and one that had just been beaten up by some street thugs. "So... what else do you need to know?" Jean knew she could easily get all of her answers, just by taking a quick peek into her young friend's mind, but that wasn't how she did things. She'd never go prying into someone's head without their permission first; especially when it came to people didn't know very well. And she really didn't want to give "D" the wrong first impression of how things worked around there. "All I need you to answer is a few small questions and we can get into the full examination," Jean replied, before she paused briefly to turn the page on her clipboard and poised her pen to write. "Have you ever gotten a physical before? If so, when?" she began, looking directly at her; but at all in an evasive way. Diana shrugged and tried to remember how long it had been. The beginning of her last year going to school, before ... everything happened. "I think I had my last sports physical about 3 years ago and I had one most every year before that." Then she realized it might seem a bit strange that she had suddenly stopped having one so she added a bit lamely. "I...kind of stopped playing sports around then." Hey. It was true. She had other things occupying her time, like staying alive. Three years ago? That was an awfully long time to go without a physical, in her opinion; but Jean concealed her disapproval and wrote the information down as it had been given to her. "Okay--do you have any underlying conditions I should take into account? Anemia, diabetes, high blood pressure...?" Diana was relaxing a bit, especially since Jean hadn't mentioned anything about the timing of her physical or anything. She shook her head again. "No, none of that and no allergies I know about either. She shrugged. "Just the stitches that one time cause I was dumb and stood on that table. Hell if I hadn't done that I probably would have never even been in a hospital before. My ..." It had been so long since she had actually talked to someone that once she had relaxed, she just started spilling things. However, she had been about to say her mother had been happy to have such a healthy kid, and the memory of her mother and what had happened was still to raw. Diana looked away and said. "Well, I'm a really healthy kid, that's all." she said with a slight indifferent shrug of her shoulders."Y "You're very fortunate then," Jean said with another genial smile, while she wrote that down, as well. "Not everyone is so lucky." From just looking at this girl, Jean could tell she was in good health, despite the lack of proper medical care. Hopefully, they'd be able to remedy that, though. "I guess I can assume you're not any medications? Over-the-counter or otherwise?" At this she did scowl. "No, no medications and I am not some damn druggie either." It may have been a standard question but it still offended her. No matter how bad things had gotten, she had never been tempted to make them worse by going THAT route. She knew what that kind of life lead to and had no interest in it. That was actually going to be her next question, and was sort of pleased Diana had taken the initiative to do so. It certainly helped speed things along. "Excellent," she said, checking a few things off and then she continued to move forward. "Are you sexually active?" Jean inquired, but very gently. They were heading onto a more sensitive subject. She knew teenagers (and even some adults) weren't very interested in discussing these things; but it was a standardized question. Ok, that had Diana blushing and completely struck silent. They had never asked her THAT question in any of her previous physicals. "No." she finally managed to squeak out. She pulled the blanket up higher and bunched her legs closer. This was making her uncomfortable again. Writing a few more things down on the notepad, Jean nodded her head and looked back at her patient. She saw that Diana was visibly discomforted by the question she had asked, but she didn't look at all surprised by her reaction. It was normal, after all. "I think that about covers all the questions I've got the ask---for now," she added, while setting the clipboard off to the side. After that, she pulled her stethoscope from around her neck and moved to place the two earpieces within her own. "Okay, I'd like you to sit up a little straighter now," Jean told her, just as she moved to stand up off of the stool she had been sitting on for the last few minutes or so. She let out a small sigh of relief as the questions finished. That minor torture was over. She sat up straighter while eyeing the stethoscope. It would be cold, she knew it. Those things were always cold. She simply braced herself and waited for the standard breath in, breath out mess. Stethoscopes were always cold. That was true. It seemed no matter how much you'd try to warm it with your breath or your hands, they always remained unnaturally cold. Luckily, Jean was able to get through that part and through most of the other tedious details of the examination relatively quickly, and now they were about to start the standardized hearing test. After they had finished with that particular half of the physical exam, Jean had moved Diana into the adjacent room, where they kept the audiometer. She had turned it on and handed a pair of headphones over to Diana with a smile. "Just put those on, and we can begin," she told her, taking a seat on the other side of the machine. Diana looked at the headphones with confusion and amusement. "What's this for? Checking my taste in music?" She shifted the headphones in her hands. They were the old clunky ones that covered your entire ear. Dr. Grey laughed softly, but she shook her head and said, "No." The machine they were going to be using was slightly outdated, but Jean preferred the older models over the newer ones, since they seemed to be the most accurate. "This is an audiometer, albeit is slightly outdated one," Jean explained. "It's used to test one's hearing." "Oh." She looked at the headphones again. She put them on and all those small sounds that she naturally ignored as background noises suddenly went silent. She blinked in surprise. Silence. She had never heard that before. She lifted one of the headphones up and asked Jean. "Er, so how does this work?" "The process is simple enough," Jean began, picking up a very small laptop and setting it upon her knees; she was going to use a computer instead of paper this time, since she'd need to get the results down as quickly as possible this time around. "Whenever you hear a slight beeping sound, I want you to raise your hands to judge which side you think the noises are transmitting from." She shrugged and sat down. Sounded simple enough. Putting the headphone back down over her ear, she let the silence wash over her. It was strange, almost as if she had completely lost the sense, but she knew she could still hear. She waited for the first beep. Diana winced at some of the sounds. A few of them were a bit loud for her. But she sat there and obediently raised her right and left arm as different pitches sounded at different levels of sound. This was getting a bit boring. She felt like some trained animal. As each beep sounded and Diana reacted, Jean quickly logged the data into the miniscule laptop. They only had a few more to go, before she would be satisfied with the information she had collected and she'd be able to get the girl some proper food. Jean figured that she must've been absolutely famished, since she hadn't eaten anything since her arrival. "Just a few more," she mouthed to Diana, as she lowered the pitch of the beeps considerably by tweaking one of the gauges on the audiometer. Diana sighed and waited. She was hungry, true, but she was also used to being hungry. She could handle it. There was a soft beep and she raised her right hand. Raise hand, lower hand... this had to be the most boring test ever. She knew she could hear, what more did you need? That was all she needed to know, and she finally ended the test by motioning for the girl to take off the headphones. Jean decided that Diana must have possessed slightly enhanced senses. Though, that was only just part of her mutant abilities; but Jean would let Professor Xavier figure the rest out, whenever he decided to meet with their newest house guest. "You did very well," Jean commended her with a warm smile. Diana was more than glad to take the headphones off. That dead silence was starting to get to her. She shook her head to try and get rid of the latent feeling of those headphones on her ears. "Thanks." She paused. It had taken a while. Maybe something was wrong. "No problems, right? I was pretty sure I did ok." But she wouldn't know if she missed some would she? Because she wouldn't have heard it. "None, as far as I can tell," Jean replied, closing the laptop once again and setting it onto one of the stainless steel table nearest to the audiometer. "You seem to be perfectly healthy," she said. But, we'll have to wait for the results of your blood tests to come back, before I can give you a clean bill of health. In the meantime, however, you might want to have a little something to eat." Her eyes lit up at the mention of food. Her stomach quickly voiced its agreement and she looked embarrassed. "I would like that." She would also like something nice and clean to wear too, but was fine with what was offered. Food was good though.
